Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the largest user group (full-time undergraduates, 44%) and the smallest (academic staff, 7%), and you make relevant comparisons among the user categories. You also correctly highlight staff helpfulness and opening hours as strong satisfaction areas, with no respondents dissatisfied. However, the report is incomplete: it ends while discussing book availability and does not summarise the remaining satisfaction results, including journals and Wi-Fi. The overview’s claim that “only two” categories received no dissatisfaction is also unclear, since these are satisfaction topics rather than user categories. The response is 147 words, below the required 150. To address the task more fully, complete the comparison of all key satisfaction patterns and provide a clear overview of the highest and lowest results.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph about user categories, and a final paragraph about satisfaction. Phrases such as “Overall,” “In terms of users,” and “On the other hand” help signal the stages of the report. However, progression is weakened by the abrupt ending at “showed stable,” which leaves the final comparison unfinished. Some links are also awkward or unclear: “Whereas” begins a fragment-like contrast, and “only two of categories” does not clearly refer to the satisfaction topics. Improve cohesion by grouping the satisfaction figures in a complete paragraph, using precise references, and ensuring each contrast connects two complete ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “proportion,” “accounted for,” “dissatisfaction,” and “availability,” and the main data can generally be understood. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “most popular user category,” “show positive with helpfulness,” and “highly satisfaction.” Spelling errors in “undergradates,” “consituted,” and “availibility” also reduce accuracy. The phrase “stable” is not an appropriate description of the book-satisfaction figures and is left incomplete. Aim for precise reporting language and check spelling carefully; for example, describe a group as having the largest share and say that users were satisfied with a service.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex forms, including a relative clause in “which received no dissatisfaction” and a comparison using “which is the double of distance learning.” The opening sentences are mostly understandable, but errors recur in sentence construction and punctuation. For example, “full-time undergradates with 44% users on top the list” is missing grammatical elements, while “while had no dissatisfaction” lacks a clear subject. The final sentence is incomplete, and spacing around commas and full stops is inconsistent. Practise complete comparative sentences with an explicit subject and verb, and proofread punctuation and sentence boundaries so that complex ideas remain clear.
