Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You cover both visuals and give a clear overview: undergraduate students form the largest user group, academic staff the smallest, and staff helpfulness receives the strongest satisfaction ratings. Most figures are reported accurately, including the 44% undergraduate share and the 20% dissatisfied with journals. However, some comparisons are unclear or imprecise. The statement that distance learners and part-time postgraduates together make up 24%, “nearly equal” to full-time postgraduates at 25%, is valid but could be expressed more directly. More importantly, “50% ... were satisfied with availability of books” does not distinguish the very satisfied group from the fairly satisfied group, and the comparison of satisfaction figures for books, wi-fi and journals is difficult to follow. Report the categories and values explicitly to make the key features clearer.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and paragraphs covering the user categories and satisfaction results. This gives the reader a coherent overall arrangement. Some linking is effective, such as “Overall” and “Whereas,” but connections are occasionally mechanical or unclear. The long sentence beginning “50% library users were satisfied...” combines several comparisons, and “2 or 5% less” makes it hard to identify which figure belongs to which facility. The final “respectfully” also leaves the comparison ambiguous. Use separate sentences or a clearer sequence, grouping the satisfaction results by the highest ratings and then by dissatisfaction. This would improve progression and make the relationships between figures easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “constitute,” “satisfied,” “availability,” and “reliability,” and the meaning is generally understandable. However, several word-choice, collocation and spelling problems reduce precision. “Libraries users” and “facilities of library” are awkward, while “distant learners” is not the chart’s category; use “distance-learning users.” There are also spelling errors such as “fill-time,” “post graduate,” and “wi-fi” written inconsistently, as well as “respectfully” where “respectively” is intended. Some expressions, including “merely 7% about 6 times less,” are imprecise. Aim for accurate chart terminology and conventional collocations, and proofread spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “while” and “whereas,” and the main message can usually be understood. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with articles, sentence boundaries and clause construction. For example, “the result of a survey of libraries users” needs a more accurate noun phrase, and “While academic staff contributes merely 7% about 6 times less...” is an incomplete or poorly joined construction. In “There were 0% users,” the structure is also inaccurate. Punctuation is inconsistent, with missing spaces after full stops and a run-on comparison in the final paragraph. Build complex comparisons in complete sentences and check articles, agreement and punctuation.
