Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

You identify the two visuals and report several accurate figures, including the 44% share of full-time undergraduates, 7% for academic staff, and the satisfaction results for opening hours. However, the response does not give a clear overview of the main patterns across both visuals, and much of the satisfaction table is omitted: books, journals and Wi-Fi are mentioned without reporting or comparing their figures. Some comments, such as saying staff are “the most reliable” or that they “make solve the problem,” are not supported by the data. The response is also one word below the required minimum. To improve, summarise the largest user group and the strongest and weakest satisfaction results, then support these points with accurate comparisons.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

There is a basic attempt to move from the user categories to satisfaction, and phrases such as “The first one” and “The last one” signal some sequencing. However, the response is presented as one paragraph, and the progression is difficult to follow because information from the pie chart and table is mixed together. Several sentences do not connect clearly to the figures, particularly the comments about staff helping students and Wi-Fi building knowledge. Use separate paragraphs for the two visuals, begin with a concise overview, and group related comparisons together. Clear links such as “By contrast” or “Meanwhile” would help show how the satisfaction ratings compare without making the organisation feel list-like.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “percentages,” “categories,” “satisfied,” and “availability,” so the reader can recognise the subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings make the report unclear, such as “faily,” “devided,” “identifing,” and “reliabily.” Some expressions are also unsuitable for describing chart data: “highest taking % staff” and “increase the staff” do not communicate the intended comparison. Aim for precise reporting language, for example, “accounted for,” “represented,” and “the largest proportion.” Check spelling and use the exact category labels, especially “distance-learning students” rather than the unclear “Learning.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response mainly uses short, simple statements, with a few attempts to join ideas using “because.” Errors in sentence boundaries, articles, agreement and sentence construction are frequent enough to make parts difficult to interpret. For example, “The summarise show the information of user satisfaction” lacks a clear grammatical structure, while “they show the 65% of very satisfied” has an awkward article and incomplete phrasing. The opening also runs two sentences together: “library users. The summarise…” Practise complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use accurate patterns such as “65% of respondents were very satisfied with the opening hours.” Adding a few controlled comparison clauses would also broaden the sentence range.
