Categories of library users

Categories of library users

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The pie chart illustrates the proportion of categories of library users and the table demostrates the satisfaction levels (very satisfied, fairly satiesfied or not satisfied) of library users. The results were created from the survey taken at university.

Overall, primary users of library are full-time undergraduate while the lowest are the academic staff. No one is unsatisfied with the library opening hours, with highest satisfaction in helpfulness of staff, while least satisfaction in availabilty of books and user not satisfied with availablility of journals.

Categories of users, under half the users of library are full-time undergraduate, while one-fourth of users are full-time postgraduate, following next are part-time postgraduate with 16%, and under 10% are distance learning and academic staff.

In satisfaction we have highest satisfaction of 95% and 0 unsatisfied users in staff help, with 65% users very satisfied with library hours, with almost half the users are very satisfied in availability of books and reliability of wi-fi and 40%, 33% fairly satisfied with 10%, 19% unsatisfied respectively.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You cover both visuals and give a clear overview: undergraduates are the largest user group, academic staff the smallest, and staff helpfulness receives the strongest satisfaction ratings. Most figures you report are accurate, including the user-group proportions and the opening-hours results. This meets the task well, with some features reported in more detail than others. However, the overview’s claim that satisfaction is lowest for books is not supported: journals have the highest dissatisfaction rate, at 20%, compared with 10% for books. The final comparison also omits the journal figures and does not clearly report the fairly satisfied and dissatisfied results for every category. More precise selection and coverage of the table would make the summary more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a sensible overall sequence: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on user categories, and a paragraph on satisfaction. This makes the two visuals easy to identify and gives the reader a basic progression through the information. Some linking is effective, such as “while” and “following next,” but connections within the final paragraph become difficult to follow because several figures and categories are compressed into one sentence. The phrase “with 40%, 33% fairly satisfied with 10%, 19% unsatisfied respectively” leaves the reader to infer which figures belong to books and which to wi-fi. Use separate sentences or clearer parallel comparisons, and ensure each pronoun or figure has an unmistakable reference.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “proportion,” “satisfaction levels,” “full-time undergraduate,” and “very satisfied,” so the main information is generally understandable. There is some useful variation in describing the data, but several word choices and collocations are imprecise or repetitive: “primary users” is less natural than “largest user group,” and “unsatisfied” is less appropriate here than “not satisfied” or “dissatisfied.” Spelling errors such as “demostrates,” “satiesfied,” and “availabilty” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, consistent terms from the table and check spelling carefully; this will make the report sound more controlled and appropriately academic.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the opening sentence successfully introduces the two visuals. However, some sentence structures are awkward or incomplete, particularly “Categories of users, under half the users of library are full-time undergraduate,” where the opening phrase does not connect grammatically to the main clause. In the final paragraph, “with almost half the users are very satisfied” combines incompatible structures; use either “almost half are very satisfied” or “with almost half being very satisfied.” There are also article and number issues, as in “users of library” and “full-time undergraduate.” These errors do not prevent understanding, but more consistent control of clauses and noun phrases is needed.
