Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the main groups and report several relevant figures, including undergraduates as the largest user category (44%), academic staff as the smallest (7%), and high satisfaction with staff helpfulness (95%). You also cover both the pie chart and the satisfaction table. However, the overview is unclear and does not bring together the key contrasts across the data. Some reporting is incomplete: for example, “16 by 100” does not accurately express the 16% figure, and the wi-fi row mentions only the 19% not satisfied, omitting the 48% very satisfied and 33% fairly satisfied. Clarify that the table reports satisfaction levels and summarise its strongest and weakest results before giving selected details.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on user categories and one on satisfaction. This helps the reader distinguish the two visuals. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow, and the overview repeats or muddles information, as in “pie chart explains the the library users and the users satisfaction level is in table.” Linking expressions such as “Furthermore,” “In addition,” and “Moreover” are used repeatedly, but they do not always show a meaningful relationship between the figures. Group related satisfaction results more clearly—for example, compare the strongest ratings with the weaker journal and wi-fi results—and use precise references so each comparison is easy to track.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “full-time undergraduate,” “academic staff,” “availability of books,” and “not satisfied,” so the reader can identify the categories and measures being described. However, the range is limited and several phrases are inaccurate or awkward, which sometimes makes the data harder to understand. “16 by 100” is not an appropriate way to report a percentage, while “fully satisfied” is used where the table’s label is “very satisfied.” The phrase “higher institute” is also less natural in this context than “university.” Aim for accurate chart-reporting language such as “accounted for,” “rated,” and “the proportion who were very satisfied,” and use the table’s satisfaction labels consistently.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple statements and longer sentences, and the main figures can generally be understood. However, grammatical control is inconsistent, with frequent errors in sentence formation, agreement, articles, and punctuation. For example, “The two categories illustrate show” contains an unrevised construction, and “the users satisfaction level is in table” has an unclear grammatical relationship. In “helpfulness of staff 95% are satisfied,” the sentence lacks a clear subject and structure; a clearer form would be “Ninety-five per cent of users were very satisfied with the helpfulness of staff.” There are also run-together forms and spacing problems, such as “arenot.” Practise complete, controlled sentences before adding longer clauses.
