Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify both parts of the visual and report several key figures accurately, including the 44% share of full-time undergraduates and the satisfaction results for staff and books. However, the overview mainly describes what each visual contains rather than summarising the main findings. Important comparisons are also incomplete: the user-category figures for full-time and part-time postgraduates (25% and 16%) are omitted, and the opening-hours row is misreported because 35% were fairly satisfied, not dissatisfied. The journals row also gives 33% as fairly satisfied, whereas the table shows 35%. To strengthen the response, select the largest and smallest user groups and highlight the strongest and weakest satisfaction results, while distinguishing all three satisfaction categories accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic overall structure: an introduction, a brief overview, and separate discussion of the chart and table. This helps the reader recognise the two topics. However, progression within the paragraphs is uneven, and the overview repeats the introduction instead of presenting a clear summary of the main patterns. Connectors such as “Secondly” provide some organisation, but the repeated “and” links several figures into long, difficult-to-follow sentences. The sequence of user categories is not consistently supported with comparisons, and the table details would be clearer if each satisfaction measure were presented in a parallel order. Use focused paragraphs and linking phrases such as “By contrast” or “The highest proportion” to make comparisons explicit.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “categories,” “satisfaction,” “availability,” and “reliability,” so the subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repetitive or imprecise, particularly repeated references to “library user” and “satisfied.” Some word combinations are unnatural, such as “use the 7%” and “satisfied with the staff,” and spelling errors—including “Catergories,” “cources,” and “Avaliability”—make the writing less controlled. Choose precise reporting language and vary how you describe proportions and satisfaction levels. For example, say that a group “accounted for” a percentage and that respondents were “very satisfied,” “fairly satisfied,” or “not satisfied,” using the table’s exact categories.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple statements and longer sentences, but control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make relationships between figures unclear. Examples include “the diagram and table, the diagram shows,” which lacks a clear grammatical connection, and “whose use the 7%,” where the clause structure is faulty. Articles and agreement are also problematic in phrases such as “the some information” and “the full time ungraduate user, use.” Several sentences join multiple clauses with commas or “and,” as in the books and journals descriptions, creating run-on structures. Practise accurate comparative sentence patterns, such as “Full-time undergraduates made up 44% of users, compared with 25% for full-time postgraduates,” and check sentence boundaries, articles, and subject–verb agreement.
