Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main user groups and several satisfaction measures, and some figures are accurate: full-time undergraduates account for 44%, academic staff 7%, and distance learners 8%. You also correctly note that staff helpfulness receives the strongest very-satisfied response. However, the overview is unclear and does not bring together the main patterns across both visuals. The claim that users “felt very satisfied because of the helpfulness of staff” suggests a cause that the data do not establish. Some comparisons are vague or inaccurate: the 30-point gap for opening hours is between very and fairly satisfied, but the statement that satisfaction “gradually declined” for books and journals does not clearly report their figures or distinguish the patterns. Select key comparisons and state them precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has an opening, an overview-like paragraph and separate discussion of user categories and satisfaction, so there is some organisation. However, progression is not consistently clear, and the ideas within paragraphs sometimes feel disconnected. For example, “Furthermore” introduces staff helpfulness, but the following sentences move between satisfaction levels and other factors without a clear comparison. Linking words such as “Meanwhile,” “At the same time,” and “Moreover” are used, but they do not always show the relationship between the information. The sentence about postgraduate users is also left without figures or a clear comparison. Group the user proportions together, then compare the satisfaction results in a logical order, using transitions only where they clarify the connection.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “minority,” “availability,” “helpfulness,” and “satisfaction,” and you attempt to describe proportions and comparisons. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning difficult to follow. Phrases such as “primary of full-time undergraduate students,” “the major reason for the very satisfaction,” and “positive decline” are not natural or precise descriptions of chart data. There are also spelling and word-form errors, including “acedemic,” “undergraduated,” “abou,” and “diference.” Aim for standard reporting language such as “accounted for,” “the highest proportion,” and “the percentage who were very satisfied,” and check spelling and word forms carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a comparison with “higher than,” but control is inconsistent and errors sometimes make the intended meaning hard to interpret. For example, “The chart and table illustrates” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “It abou 44%. t” is incomplete and incorrectly punctuated. The sentence “At the same time, full-time postgraduate students using the library were higher than the part-time postgraduate students were using the library” has an awkward comparison structure; compare the proportions of the two groups instead. Articles, plurals and sentence boundaries also need attention. Build accuracy with clear patterns such as “X accounted for 44%” and “Y was higher than Z,” then proofread each sentence for a complete subject and verb.
