Categories of library users

Categories of library users

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The pie chart and table illustrate the library members reviews during a questionnaire at a university.

Overall, full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students are in high proportions while academic workers and distance learning users are in lower proportions. The users are satisfied greater with library timing and helping nature of staff meanwhile they’re not much happy with journals presence and WiFi reliability.

In the pie chart, there is a distribution of data according to different categories of library members. Full-time postgraduate pupils consist of a quarter proportion by contrast, full-time undergraduate is about a little smaller than half of its total size. Moreover, the academic staff is approximately 7 percent and distance learning(all courses) is about 8 percent. In addition, the part-time postgraduate is smaller than a quarter(about 16%).

In the table, there is a comparison between the library user satisfaction rates as the poll contains three opinions( full satisfied, moderate satisfied and not satisfied) according to user choices. The members are fully satisfied(approximately 95 percent)with the helping nature of staff while only 5% are fairly satisfied. The users about 65% are with library opening hours and 35 percent are moderate satisfied. Meanwhile, half of the audience is satisfied with books availability, 40 percent are fairly satisfied and only 10% are not satisfied. In addition, the users are closely in percentages who are satisfied with availability of journals (45%) , the moderately satisfied (35%), not satisfied(20%) while for the service of WiFi 48 percent are satisfied, 33% are fairly satisfied and only 19% residents are not satisfied.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You cover both visuals and provide a clear overview, identifying the dominance of full-time undergraduates and the stronger satisfaction with staff and opening hours. The figures you report are generally accurate, including the 95% very satisfied with staff, and the breakdowns for books, journals and Wi-Fi. This gives the response a well-supported account of the main features. Some comparisons could be more precise: for example, the overview says users are “not much happy” with journals and Wi-Fi, although their very-satisfied figures are 45% and 48%, and the table shows a clearer distinction in dissatisfaction for journals (20%) than for Wi-Fi (19%). Also, “full-time undergraduate … a little smaller than half” is imprecise for 44%. State the key contrasts directly and consistently.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall progression: an introduction, an overview, then separate paragraphs describing the chart and table. This organisation makes the two sources easy to follow, and linking expressions such as “Overall,” “Moreover,” and “Meanwhile” help signal relationships between points. The table paragraph also moves through the satisfaction categories in a generally logical way. To make cohesion more controlled, avoid relying on repeated “In addition” and “Meanwhile,” and use clearer references when shifting between satisfaction levels. For instance, “The users about 65% are with library opening hours” makes the relationship between the users and the figure difficult to follow. More direct sentence framing would preserve the logical structure while making connections smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary to describe proportions and satisfaction, including “distribution,” “proportion,” “approximately,” and “availability.” The wording is varied enough to report both visuals, and most choices remain understandable. However, several collocations and labels are unnatural or imprecise, such as “library members reviews,” “helping nature of staff,” “full satisfied,” and “moderate satisfied.” These choices sometimes make the description sound less clear or less academic, even though the intended meaning can usually be inferred. Aim for standard chart-reporting phrases and use the table’s categories consistently. More accurate collocations would improve precision and help you express comparisons without awkward wording.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including contrast structures such as “while” and “by contrast,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, grammatical control is uneven, with errors in sentence construction, agreement, articles and punctuation. For example, “Full-time postgraduate pupils consist of a quarter proportion” has an awkward subject–verb pattern, while “The users about 65% are with library opening hours” lacks a clear grammatical structure. There are also missing spaces around punctuation and parentheses, and “the moderately satisfied” is not formed correctly as a clause. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement and punctuation carefully; this will make your range more effective.
