Categories of library users
Student answer (Band 5.0)
The pie chart and table illustrate the percentage of different categories of people who use library at a university and their satisfaction level in different aspects.
Overall the pie chart is classified in to five different groups of individuals and their satisfaction level is given from maximum to minimum regarding various facilities available at library.
In general it was observed that highest percentage of 44 was shown by full time undergraduates and lowest i.e. 7 by academic staff. while distance learning students also did not use library much as it was just 8 %. Postgraduate students demonstarted the medium level of library usage among all and it was 25 percent used by full time postgraduate individuals and 16% by part time students.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response identifies the main user groups and reports their proportions accurately, including the largest group (full-time undergraduates, 44%) and the smallest (academic staff, 7%). It also includes the other three figures correctly. However, it does not summarise the table at all, so a major part of the task—the satisfaction ratings across five library services—is missing. The overview is also vague: saying satisfaction ranges “from maximum to minimum” does not identify the strongest or weakest results. The response is 122 words, below the required 150, and this limits the detail provided. To improve, include a concise overview of the satisfaction pattern and compare key figures, such as staff helpfulness being rated very highly and journals receiving the most dissatisfaction.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction to general comments and then details about the user categories. This gives the reader some sense of organisation, and phrases such as “Overall” and “In general” signal summary. However, these two signals introduce overlapping generalisations rather than distinct stages of a clear overview, and the response ends without addressing the table. The progression is therefore incomplete. Some links are also awkward, particularly “Postgraduate students… and it was 25 percent… and 16%,” where the relationship between the two figures could be expressed more directly. Organise the report into an introduction, a clear overview of both visuals, and focused detail paragraphs comparing the most important figures.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The response uses a reasonable range of task-related vocabulary, including “categories,” “percentage,” “full time undergraduates,” and “library usage.” It also attempts more formal reporting language with “illustrate” and “observed.” However, several choices are unnatural or imprecise: “satisfaction level in different aspects” would be clearer as “satisfaction with different aspects,” while “medium level of library usage” is not a natural description of the proportions. “Classified in to” is also an inaccurate phrase, and “demonstrated” is misspelled as “demonstarted.” These issues do not prevent understanding, but they reduce precision and naturalness. Use standard chart-reporting collocations such as “accounted for,” “the largest share,” and “were very satisfied with.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response includes both simple statements and some attempts at longer structures, for example the sentence beginning “while distance learning students…” and the sentence about postgraduate users. Meaning is generally recoverable, but grammatical control is uneven. The opening says “people who use library” rather than “people who use the library,” and “classified in to five different groups” has an incorrect construction. The sentence beginning “In general it was observed” needs a comma after its introductory phrase, and “while” should not begin a new sentence with a lowercase letter after the preceding full stop. The final sentence also has an unclear structure around “it was 25 percent used… and 16%.” Aim for shorter, complete comparisons and check articles, punctuation, and sentence boundaries.
