Student answer (Band 6.0)

The chart and table illustrate the outcome of a survey of library users at a university.

Overall, the pie chart give the categories of library users meanwhile the table chart show library user satisfaction.

Delving deeper into details, there are five categories of library users. Most of the users are full-time undergraduate in this chart around 44%. While the less proportion are in academic staff just 7%. At this point, full-time postgraduate are the second highest proportion about 25%. Part-time postgraduate are 16% whereas distance learning are just 8% in this chart.

In the second table chart, there are three satisfaction level: very satisfied, fairly satisfied and non satisfied. In very satisfied level, library user satisfaction the highest user in helpfulness of staff and the number is 95. While the least in availability of wi-fi where the number is only 45. In fairly satisfied level, the highest user in availability of books and the number is 40. Whereas, the other three categories number are same as 35. While the least in helpfulness staff and the number is just 5. Lastly, in not satisfied level the highest in availability of journals where the number is 20. While the least number is 10 in availability of books. However, library opening hours and helpfulness staff have no user who not satisfied in this table chart.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You cover both visuals and report several key figures accurately: undergraduates are the largest user group at 44%, academic staff the smallest at 7%, and staff helpfulness receives the highest very-satisfied result at 95%. You also identify that opening hours and staff helpfulness have no dissatisfied users. However, the overview is too general: it says only that the chart gives categories and the table shows satisfaction, rather than summarising the main patterns. Some details are unclear or inaccurate, notably calling wi-fi the least very-satisfied category at 45%; books are actually higher at 50%, while wi-fi is 48%. The comparison of fairly satisfied results is also misreported: books lead at 40%, and the other figures are not all 35%. Select and check the main comparisons more carefully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on user categories, and a final paragraph on satisfaction. This makes the two visuals easy to distinguish, and sequencing expressions such as “Overall,” “Delving deeper,” and “Lastly” help guide the reader. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, especially the repeated use of “While” and “Whereas” to begin short statements. Some links also create incomplete or awkward sentence patterns, and “At this point” does not clearly signal the comparison that follows. The overview does not provide a useful organising summary of the main findings. To strengthen progression, group related satisfaction results and use fewer, more precise transitions to show contrasts and rankings.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “categories,” “proportion,” “satisfaction level,” and “availability,” so the topic is generally clear. There is some attempt to vary expressions, for example “the highest” and “the least.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural: “the table chart,” “the highest user,” and “non satisfied” do not express the intended information precisely. “The less proportion” is also an awkward way to describe the smallest group. Repetition of “number” and “user” limits flexibility, and “wi-fi” is not named consistently as reliability of wi-fi. Build a more precise range for describing percentages and satisfaction ratings, and check whether each noun refers to a group, a percentage, or a rating.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple statements and longer comparisons, and the reader can usually understand the intended meaning. However, some errors in agreement, articles, plurals, and sentence construction remain. For example, “the pie chart give” should have a singular verb, while “there are three satisfaction level” needs a plural noun. Phrases such as “Most of the users are full-time undergraduate” also need a plural form, and “the highest user in helpfulness of staff” is not a complete or well-formed comparison. Several clauses beginning “While” or “Whereas” are fragments rather than complete sentences. Practise forming complete comparative sentences and checking subject–verb agreement and singular/plural forms; this will make your range of structures more controlled.
