Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the main user groups and report their proportions accurately, including the largest group of full-time undergraduates at 44% and the smaller shares for academic staff and distance learners. You also select two satisfaction areas for discussion, and the staff-helpfulness and journal figures are correct. However, the response only partly covers the table: it omits opening hours, books and wi-fi, despite these showing useful contrasts, such as 65% very satisfied with opening hours and 10% not satisfied with books. There is also no clear overview drawing out the main patterns across both visuals. To strengthen the response, summarise the most notable overall findings and compare more of the satisfaction categories rather than describing only selected rows.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response follows a generally understandable order: it first describes the user categories and then turns to satisfaction, so the reader can distinguish the two visuals. Some linking language, such as “while” and “whereas,” also helps connect figures. However, the information is presented as one long block, with no clear paragraphing or separate overview, and the progression within the table discussion is limited. The opening repeats “and” (“and and”), while phrases such as “User Satisfaction table shows” do not create a clear transition from the chart. Organise the answer into an introduction, an overview, and focused detail paragraphs. Use comparisons to guide the reader through the table, rather than listing isolated figures.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant task vocabulary, including “categories,” “percentage,” “full-time undergraduate,” “fairly satisfied,” and “reliability of wi-fi,” which allows you to report the data. There is some variation in how proportions are expressed, such as “standing at 44%” and “consisting of 25%.” However, several spelling errors and awkward or repetitive phrases reduce precision: “Satisfication,” “stafisfied,” “opeing,” and “helfulness” are noticeable, and “largest percentage in not satisfied category” is not a natural collocation. Prefer concise, accurate reporting language and check spelling carefully. For example, “accounted for” or “represented” would be more natural than “consisting of” when describing a share of users.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some longer sentences to combine figures, and the meaning is usually recoverable. However, the response relies heavily on extended sentences joined by commas and conjunctions, and errors occur frequently enough to affect clarity. For example, “The table and chart shows” has subject–verb disagreement, and “there are five categories of library user nearly half the users are…” runs two clauses together without suitable punctuation. Articles and sentence boundaries are also inconsistent, as in “second largest percentage is of full-time post graduate.” Use shorter, complete sentences and check agreement, articles, and punctuation. A clearer structure would be: “The chart shows five user groups. Full-time undergraduates form the largest group, at 44%.”
