Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the largest user group, full-time undergraduates at 44%, and correctly note that staff helpfulness receives the strongest very-satisfied result, at 95%. You also report several other user shares and satisfaction figures accurately. However, the overview is incomplete: it does not summarise the main pattern across the table, such as the generally high satisfaction with opening hours and staff, or the comparatively greater dissatisfaction with journals and wi-fi. Those two categories are omitted from the detailed account, and the opening-hours result is not discussed. Some descriptions are unclear, including “maximum increase” for a satisfaction percentage, which suggests a change over time not shown in the table. Select the key contrasts and describe them precisely to make the summary more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, a paragraph on user categories and a paragraph on satisfaction. This gives the reader a basic route through the information, and phrases such as “Looking at the pie chart” and “With regard to the table” signal the shift in focus. However, progression within the table paragraph is less controlled: it moves from staff helpfulness to books and then wi-fi, without covering the remaining categories or establishing a clear comparison across all results. Some linking is mechanical, and “whereas” does not always create a clear contrast. Grouping the satisfaction results by strongest approval and greatest dissatisfaction, with consistent comparisons, would improve cohesion and make the paragraph easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “vast majority,” “satisfaction,” “very satisfied” and “not satisfied,” and the main subject remains understandable. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “favoured of full-time postgraduate,” “maximum increase” and “selected by 16% consumers.” These expressions make the data descriptions less precise; the table reports satisfaction proportions, not increases or preferences. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “helpfullness,” “experinced” and “availabilty.” Aim for accurate, natural reporting language and check spelling carefully. For example, use “accounted for” to describe a share and “recorded” or “reported” to introduce a satisfaction figure.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts a few longer structures, including “While the highest satisfaction in helpfulness of staff category” and a comparison beginning “The fairly satisfied is noticed as greatest…”. However, these are incomplete or awkwardly formed, and many sentences show problems with articles, agreement and sentence construction. For example, “the 44% of full-time undergraduate use library” needs a plural subject and a more complete article pattern, while “The academic staff and distance learning … 7 to 8% use library” does not clearly connect the categories to their respective figures. Capitalisation after “While” and punctuation around “whereas” also need attention. Practise complete, controlled sentences such as “Full-time undergraduates accounted for 44% of users,” then build comparisons from these accurate basic patterns.
