Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify both visuals and report several important features accurately: undergraduates form the largest user group (44%), followed by full-time postgraduates (25%), and staff helpfulness receives the strongest satisfaction rating. You also correctly note that journals have the highest dissatisfaction (20%). This gives the response a relevant overview and covers both the user categories and satisfaction results. However, some comparisons are incomplete: the two smallest user groups are described only as a minority, without their figures (8% and 7%), and the claim that books have the highest share of fairly satisfied users is not accurate; opening hours are highest at 35%, compared with 40% for books—actually, books are highest at 40%. More importantly, several table results are omitted, so the main patterns are not fully developed. Include key figures across the satisfaction categories to make comparisons clearer.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, a general overview, a paragraph on user categories, and a final paragraph on satisfaction. This makes the two visuals easy to distinguish, and phrases such as “Overall” and “In the table” help signal the direction of the report. However, the overview mostly lists the categories and satisfaction groupings rather than summarising the most notable patterns. Some linking is mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “In the chart” and “In the table,” while the long sentence beginning “In the chart full-time undergraduate…” packs several comparisons together. Improve progression by grouping related figures and using clearer links such as “By contrast” or “Regarding satisfaction,” while ensuring each paragraph develops one main comparison.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “categories,” “majority,” “availability,” and “not satisfied,” so the reader can understand the subject and the broad comparisons. There is also some attempt to vary wording, for example “in the minority” and “most satisfied.” However, several choices are imprecise or awkward, such as “types of user in library,” “in the second number,” and “cover the most percentage of user.” Spelling errors such as “availibility” and “satatisfaction,” along with the joined form “helpfulnessas,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural collocations and precise chart language: for example, say that a group “accounted for” a percentage and that users were “fairly satisfied with book availability.” Proofread spelling and spacing carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response includes both simple statements and some longer structures, such as the comparison of undergraduate and postgraduate users. Most of the intended meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity and control. For example, “the types of user in library” needs a plural form and an article or possessive construction, while “the availability of journal have” has a subject–verb agreement error and an incorrect singular form. In “distance learning and academic staff categories is in the minority,” the plural subject does not agree with “is.” The long chart sentence also needs clearer punctuation and sentence boundaries. Practise accurate agreement, articles, and plural forms, and divide multi-part comparisons into shorter sentences.
