Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main user group correctly: full-time undergraduates account for 44%, and you note that academic staff and distance learners are the smallest groups, at 7% and 8%. You also select the high satisfaction with staff and opening hours as relevant features. However, the overview is incomplete and includes an unclear claim that the “minimum proportion” of dissatisfaction was for books and Wi-Fi; in fact, dissatisfaction was lowest for opening hours and staff (both 0%), while journals had the highest figure (20%). Several table values and comparisons are omitted, and “extremely satisfied” is not the chart’s category label. Report the key contrasts across both visuals more accurately and clearly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction to an overview and then separate descriptions of the pie chart and table. This gives the reader some sense of organisation. However, progression is limited: the table discussion focuses on only a few figures, and the overview does not clearly summarise the most important comparisons. Linking words such as “While,” and “However” are used awkwardly or without a clear contrast, and “In the pie chart show” does not form a clear transition into the data. Build a more logical sequence by grouping the main user proportions together, then comparing satisfaction results, and use linking expressions only where the relationship between ideas is clear.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “proportion,” “categories,” “satisfaction,” and “availability,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “table chart,” “library consumer,” and “percentage extremely satisfied.” “Extremely satisfied” also does not match the table’s label, “Very satisfied.” Spelling and form errors, including “compere” and “wifi,” further reduce precision. Aim for standard chart-reporting phrases such as “the table presents,” “users were very satisfied,” and “accounted for,” and use the exact category labels from the visual. This would make the description more natural and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a few longer structures, including the opening sentence beginning “While,” and the overview sentence about the user categories, but control is inconsistent. Several sentences lack a complete or correctly formed clause, as in “In the pie chart show forty four percentage” and “the full time postgraduate library user percentage of 25.” There are also problems with articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries: “the highest number … was” is followed by a proportion, and “While,” is incorrectly punctuated before the main clause. Most sentences rely on simple patterns, and errors sometimes make the intended relationship difficult to follow. Practise complete subject–verb sentences and use a small range of accurate comparison structures, such as “Undergraduates made up 44%, whereas…”.
