Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the main user group correctly: full-time undergraduates account for the largest share at 44%, while academic staff are the smallest at 7%. You also report several satisfaction figures accurately, including 95% very satisfied with staff helpfulness and 65% with opening hours. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: opening hours are not among the lowest-rated categories, since nobody is dissatisfied with them. The comparison of satisfaction across all five aspects is also incomplete; for example, journals and wi-fi have relatively high dissatisfaction (20% and 19%), a useful contrast with staff and opening hours. Some figures are misreported or their categories are unclear, such as saying 40 people were dissatisfied with books rather than 40% fairly satisfied. Select the key contrasts and describe them precisely.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic overall structure, with an attempted overview followed by paragraphs on user categories and satisfaction. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is grouped. However, progression within the paragraphs is often difficult to follow, and the overview contains fragmented statements, such as “Helpfulness of staff largest amount of other categories.” Linking expressions including “To begin with,” “Furthermore,” and “Secondly” provide some organisation, but they do not always clarify the relationship between the figures. The final sentence about journals and wi-fi is especially hard to interpret. Use a clear overview, then group related comparisons, and make each sentence state the category, satisfaction level, and relevant comparison explicitly.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “proportion,” “very satisfied,” and “fairly satisfied,” and you attempt to describe comparisons. However, the range is limited and many word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the data difficult to understand. Examples include “largest amount,” “four quater users by people,” and “satisfaction around 45 and 48 people”; the figures are percentages, not people. Spelling errors such as “lirary,” “houres,” and “cateogries” also reduce clarity. Build a reliable set of chart-reporting phrases and use them consistently, such as “accounted for,” “the proportion who were very satisfied,” and “the highest/lowest percentage.” Check spelling and distinguish percentages from counts.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
There are attempts to form longer sentences and use comparison clauses, but grammatical control is weak and errors frequently make relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “Overall, It can be observed that. usres full-time undergraduate acoounted higher proportion” contains sentence-boundary, word-order, and article problems. In “Full-time postgraduate four quater users by people,” the sentence lacks a clear verb and grammatical structure. Agreement and sentence construction are also problematic in “Helpfulness largest occured aroud 95% in very satisfied.” Punctuation and capitalisation are inconsistent, including unnecessary full stops and capitals after commas. Practise accurate simple sentences first—for example, “Full-time undergraduates accounted for 44% of users”—then add controlled comparisons using “whereas” or “while.”
