Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response identifies two relevant features: full-time undergraduates form the largest user group, at 44%, and satisfaction with staff helpfulness is high. The comparison with full-time postgraduates at 25% is also accurate. However, the report covers only a small part of the visual data: it omits the other user categories and nearly all satisfaction results, including the contrast between opening hours and books, journals, and wi-fi. There is no overview of the main satisfaction patterns, and the response is far below the required 150 words. To address the task more fully, summarise both visuals, select several key comparisons, and support them with accurate figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic, understandable sequence: it introduces the visuals, gives an overall statement, and then adds a specific comparison about user categories. The use of “Overall” and “Also” provides some linking. However, the report ends abruptly after one comparison, so there is little progression across the information and no organised account of the table. The relationship between the overview and the final detail is also limited. A clearer structure would use an introduction, an overview, and separate detail paragraphs for user categories and satisfaction, with comparisons linking related figures.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary is sufficient to communicate a few basic points, using relevant terms such as “full-time undergraduate,” “post graduates,” and “satisfied.” However, the range is narrow and some expressions are awkward or imprecise, including “maximum visitors” and “visitors of library.” The response also uses “piechart” as one word, whereas “pie chart” is the standard form. More precise language for describing proportions and survey results would improve clarity and suitability for an academic report. For example, use “accounted for” or “represented” when reporting shares, and refer to “library users” rather than “visitors” when describing the categories.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response uses short, mostly simple sentences, and the main points remain understandable. There is an attempt to use a comparative structure in “followed by full-time post graduates with 25%.” However, grammatical control is uneven: “The piechart and table depicts” has a subject–verb agreement error because the compound subject requires “depict,” and “at university library” is missing an article. The phrase “maximum visitors of library are full-time undergraduate” also has problems with articles and plural agreement. Use accurate sentence patterns such as “The charts show…” and “Full-time undergraduates accounted for 44% of users,” then check agreement and articles.
