Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You identify the two visuals and name several user categories, and the figure of 44% for full-time undergraduates is accurate. However, the response is incomplete: it stops after beginning a point about part-time postgraduates and gives no account of the satisfaction table. The overview merely says that the table represents satisfaction, rather than highlighting key findings such as staff helpfulness receiving the highest satisfaction or journals having the largest dissatisfied share. The comparison that full-time postgraduates are “almost half” of full-time undergraduates is also inaccurate: 25% is a little over half of 44%, not almost half. The response is substantially below the required 150 words. To improve, complete both visual summaries and select the main comparisons accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening identifies the visuals, a second paragraph gives a general overview, and a final paragraph begins describing the user categories. This gives the reader some sense of the intended structure. However, progression is limited because the final paragraph ends mid-idea, and the satisfaction data is never developed. Linking words such as “Overall,” “Moreover,” “Whereas,” and “Furthermore” are present, but they do not create a complete sequence of information; “Whereas” also introduces a comparison that is not clearly expressed. Use separate, complete paragraphs for the user proportions and satisfaction results, and connect them with clear comparisons rather than leaving points unfinished.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant task vocabulary, including “categories,” “full-time undergraduate,” “full-time postgraduate,” and “satisfaction,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several spelling errors are noticeable, including “liabrary” and “lisbrary.” Some expressions are also unnatural or imprecise: “library consumers” is less suitable than “library users,” and “how much satisfaction had by users” does not clearly describe satisfaction levels. The phrase “full-time graduate” is not the same category label as “full-time postgraduate.” Aim for accurate chart language such as “accounted for,” “proportion,” and “were very satisfied,” while checking spelling and using the labels consistently.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt more than isolated simple statements, using structures such as “Overall, the pie chart illustrates…” and a comparison introduced by “Whereas.” However, control is uneven, and several sentences are incomplete or awkwardly formed. “There are categories of library users and how much satisfaction had by users mentioned in a table” lacks a clear grammatical relationship between its ideas. “Whereas full-time postgraduate is almost half…” is a dependent clause presented as a sentence, and the final “Furthermore” clause has no completed predicate. There are also issues with articles and number, as in “the result of a survey” and “full-time postgraduate.” Practise writing complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check clause boundaries and agreement before finishing.
