Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the task by summarizing the main trends in shop closures and openings. However, the analysis is inconsistent and contains factual inaccuracies regarding the data. For example, stating that openings were higher than closures throughout the period is contradicted by the graph, which shows closures exceeding openings for several years. The description of the 2014 intersection is accurate, but the interpretation of the 2015 data is confusing and lacks precision. The response identifies some key features, but the lack of clarity in reporting the figures prevents a higher score. To improve, ensure that the data points are read accurately and that the overview clearly reflects the overall trends shown in the graph.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the logical progression is hindered by awkward phrasing and unclear transitions between ideas. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often mechanical or misused, such as 'In the end' and 'it is very popular that it commence'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult to follow the comparison between the two categories. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus would significantly enhance the flow and coherence of the writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is limited and often imprecise. There is a reliance on basic terms like 'times' and 'huge down', which do not accurately describe the data trends. Some word choices are inappropriate for an academic report, such as 'it is very popular that it commence'. There are also issues with word formation and collocation, such as 'stabled at' instead of 'stabilized at'. To achieve a higher band, you should incorporate more precise vocabulary related to trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'declined', 'surpassed', and 'remained stable', and ensure that words are used in their correct grammatical context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('the point meet'), tense usage ('it is was'), and sentence structure ('more number of times were open'). While there is an attempt to use complex sentences, they are often faulty, leading to confusion. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence structures, ensuring consistent verb tenses, and proofreading for common errors like subject-verb agreement and article usage.
