Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

You have identified the main trends and provided data points for both shop closures and openings. However, the report lacks a clear overview or summary of the most significant trends. Furthermore, some of the data points mentioned are inaccurate based on the graph (e.g., stating there was 'no change' from 2016 to 2018 for openings, when the graph shows a clear decline). To improve, ensure you accurately interpret the visual data and provide a concise summary of the overall trends in the introduction or conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often repetitive and mechanical, such as the frequent use of 'it was seen that' or 'there was'. The progression of ideas is sometimes hindered by these repetitive structures. To reach a higher band, try to vary your linking words and use referencing more effectively to connect sentences, rather than starting every sentence with a similar phrase.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is quite repetitive. Phrases like 'it was seen that' and 'around' are used excessively. There are also some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'reopened' instead of 'opened' and 'the number of shop that was been closed'. To improve, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'plummeted', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a marginal increase'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include 'the number of opening and closing shop was not steady' (should be plural 'shops') and 'it was seen a sudden drop' (incorrect passive construction). Additionally, there are issues with subject-verb agreement and tense consistency. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to lower the score. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement will help.
