Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, containing only 121 words, which incurs a direct penalty on Task Achievement. While the student attempts to summarise the data, the reporting of figures is highly inaccurate and misrepresents the visual data provided. For example, the student claims the highest number of openings was 'around 85000', whereas the actual peak is 8,500. Furthermore, data points are described vaguely or incorrectly, and the overview merely states that closures and openings are 'slightly declining' without capturing the distinct fluctuations between 2011 and 2018. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay is poorly organised and fails to use adequate paragraphing. It consists of very short, disjointed sentences and repetitive structures (e.g., 'then the shops are...'). Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, and the progression of ideas is hindered by abrupt transitions and poor referencing, such as referring to the second line graph simply as 'the another line can be notice'. There is no logical flow or clear overview paragraph, leading to an overall arrangement that feels disjointed and difficult to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The lexical range is extremely limited and inadequate for an Academic Task 1 response. The student relies on basic, repetitive vocabulary ('shops', 'declining', 'increase') and commits severe word choice and spelling errors throughout, such as 'nimber' for number, 'highist' for highest, 'opended' for opened, and 'destruct' instead of closing down or decreasing. These lexical inaccuracies and limited range significantly impede communication and prevent the reader from grasping the accurate statistical information.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammatical range is very limited, consisting predominantly of simple or poorly constructed attempts at complex sentences. There are frequent, pervasive errors in tense, subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure, such as 'In given graph shows', 'the number of new shops have opened', and 'after dalining their are some increases'. Punctuation is also neglected, with missing capitals at the beginning of sentences. These errors are frequent and cause considerable difficulty for the reader in understanding the intended meaning.
