Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, falling short at 136 words. Furthermore, the content fails to properly summarise the main features or make relevant comparisons of the data provided in the graph. Instead of presenting a clear overview and highlighting key trends such as the peak years or overall trajectories, the writing presents confused and inaccurate descriptions of the visual information, such as stating that values reached a 'same cost'. The selection of data is weak, and the response lacks any clear structure required for an academic task of this nature, resulting in a minimal attempt to address the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The organisation of the text is very basic and lacks a logical flow. The response is divided into informal and conversational paragraphs that do not follow standard essay conventions. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, relying on awkward transitional phrases like 'So, in 2011' and conversational asides like 'In conclusion i want to write that'. There is no clear progression of ideas throughout the text, and referencing between sentences is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the intended comparisons.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary used is basic, repetitive, and heavily restricted. The student relies on simple, imprecise terms such as 'shop', 'closed', and 'opened' throughout the text without demonstrating a sufficient range for the task. There are noticeable errors in word choice and phrasing, such as referring to data points as reaching the 'same cost', which impedes communication and reflects a very limited command of appropriate lexical items for reporting statistical data.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The grammatical structures attempted are very limited and heavily flawed. The response consists of poorly constructed, overly long sentences that lack proper punctuation and capitalization. There are frequent errors in verb forms, tenses, and agreements, such as 'the graphs shows', 'number of shop which is opened', and 'wherever the number of shop closed and opened where reach'. These frequent errors cause considerable difficulty for the reader and demonstrate a lack of control over basic sentence construction.
