Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response addresses the task only partially and presents some confusion regarding the timeframe, stating the chart shows information for 'two diffrent years, 2011 and 2018' rather than a continuous period from 2011 to 2018. While an overview is attempted, it is poorly articulated and confused. Furthermore, there are several inaccurate data reports, such as stating that shop openings reached 6000 in 2014 (when it was around 6200) and describing the dramatic drop in closures in 2015 as 'rose downward at 2015 to only 500 shops'. Ideas are limited and under-developed, and the selection of data lacks precision and clarity.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation with paragraphs used to separate introduction, overview, and body details, but there is no clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are used awkwardly or inaccurately, such as starting sentences with 'While,' or 'Than the number of new shops were continuesly decreased'. Referencing and logical transitions between sentences are frequently faulty, creating a mechanical and disjointed flow that requires the reader to work harder to follow the intended comparisons.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task. There are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'diffrent', 'biginning', 'oepened', 'significantally', 'throught', 'continuesly', 'char', and 'respectevly'. Attempts to use less common vocabulary like 'upward trend' and 'decreased' are undermined by frequent inaccuracies in word form and collocation, which occasionally cause difficulty for the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The text demonstrates a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences or faulty attempts at complex clauses. There are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('the number of new shops were around 8500'), incorrect prepositional use, and awkward passive/active mixes ('the new shops oepened shows upward trend', 'the shops that were closed at nearly to 6300'). These errors occur throughout the text and cause noticeable difficulty, though the core meaning of the figures can mostly be deciphered.
