Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify both series and give a broad overview: openings generally fall, while closures fluctuate. You also select several important movements, including the sharp fall in closures in 2015 and their recovery afterwards. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: closures fell from about 6,400 to 5,900 in 2012, not by 2,000, and the 2015 figure was about 600, not simply an unspecified low. The overview also misses the key comparison that openings began higher than closures but ended lower. Your account of openings is too general to show the main year-to-year changes clearly. More accurate comparisons and a concise, precise overview would make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and separate paragraphs for openings and closures. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, progression within the paragraphs is often repetitive and mechanical: several sentences begin with “Then” or “After that,” and the final sentence repeats that closures varied without adding a new comparison. Some references, such as “this range” and “this number,” are not always clear. Organise the details into clearer stages or direct comparisons between the two lines, and use a wider range of linking and referencing expressions. This would create a more consistent progression rather than a sequence of loosely connected statements.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant chart vocabulary, including “declined,” “grew,” “dipped,” “plummeted” and “stable,” so the reader can generally understand the trends you intend to describe. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “shop opening was significant plummeted,” “this range gained,” and “closures range was varry.” Repeated use of “range” also obscures whether you mean the number of shops or a trend. Spelling errors such as “form,” “figur” and “varry” further reduce clarity. Use precise nouns such as “figure” or “number,” and choose trend verbs that fit the size and direction of each change. Proofreading spelling and word forms would improve control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, but the range of reliably controlled structures is limited. Errors in agreement, articles and verb forms occur frequently, as in “Number of shop opening was significant plummeted” and “this range declined in 2012 then again this range grew.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also inconsistent, particularly in “Based on the line graph,The number…” and the final sentence beginning with a lowercase letter. These problems sometimes make relationships between events difficult to follow. Practise building accurate sentences with a clear subject and verb, for example, “The number of openings fell in 2012, then rose until 2014.” Check articles, plural forms and punctuation before submitting.
