Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response struggles to address the prompt effectively. While it touches on the topic of primary school education, the argument is fragmented and lacks a clear, consistent position. The ideas are underdeveloped and often confusing, such as the discussion about 'madrisa' teachers or the incoherent ending. The response fails to provide a structured argument regarding the balance between formal learning and play. The content is largely anecdotal and lacks the analytical depth required for an Academic Task 2 essay. The final paragraph contains significant irrelevant text that does not contribute to the task requirements, indicating a failure to maintain a formal academic tone.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay lacks logical progression. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the internal structure of these paragraphs is weak. The use of cohesive devices is either absent or misused, making it difficult to follow the writer's train of thought. For example, the transition 'Second of all' does not lead to a coherent point. Referencing is often unclear, with pronouns like 'he' or 'it' lacking clear antecedents. The final paragraph is particularly problematic, as it descends into incoherent strings of letters, which completely disrupts the flow and coherence of the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is very limited and repetitive. The student relies on basic words and struggles to express complex ideas accurately. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'admit her child in school' instead of 'enroll their child in school' and 'mental condition' instead of 'mental well-being'. The use of non-standard terms like 'madrisa' and the inclusion of nonsensical character strings at the end of the essay demonstrate a lack of control over vocabulary and spelling. The range is insufficient to convey precise meaning in an academic context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There is a lack of control over basic sentence structures, including subject-verb agreement ('the school are not give'), tense usage, and article usage. Complex sentence structures are attempted but are almost always faulty, leading to confusion. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with spaces before commas and periods. The high frequency of errors throughout the text makes it difficult for the reader to understand the intended message, and the final section is grammatically non-existent.
