Student answer (Band 5.5)

In many societies, it is argued that the formal education have been more preferred in primary schools. I completely agree with this view because it provides basic learning environment to young children and enhance their knowledge in very young age. This essay will discuss the main trend before presenting my opinion.

On the one hand, there are several advantages to provide learning environment to young children. The primary reason is that the children learn formal education with proper strategies, which encourages them to develop academic concepts effectively. Another reason is that primary education is essential for children which helps them to learn by their peer groups. For example, children in schools spend quality time with their classmates and work on one project, this activity helps children to share their ideas with others. As a result, learning formal educational environment make students active.

On the other hand, young students learn about school settings and rules, teachers provide them information to maintain their routine by providing small educational information. Another reason is that formal education is crucial to understand critical situations which enhance their critical thinking. For example, In classroom settings, students solve one problem effectively and their performance leads them to decision making skills. As a result, academic system provide opportunities to students learn about a system in very early age.

In conclusion primary education is essential for children because it enhance knowledge such as critical thinking, decision making skills and cooperation. In my opinion, early education for young children is sometimes make difficulties because they remain less creative.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, but the development of ideas is inconsistent. While you argue that formal learning is beneficial, the second part of the prompt—the importance of play—is largely neglected or conflated with formal learning. The conclusion introduces a contradictory point about creativity, which undermines the clarity of your overall position. To improve, ensure each paragraph focuses on a distinct aspect of the prompt and provides more specific, logical support. The ideas are relevant but remain somewhat superficial, lacking the depth required for a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a basic attempt at logical progression. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'The primary reason is...', 'Another reason is...'). Some transitions feel forced, and the relationship between ideas within paragraphs is sometimes unclear. For instance, the transition from discussing peer groups to 'learning formal educational environment' lacks a smooth logical link. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows naturally from the previous one would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision expected at higher levels. You rely on basic terms like 'formal education' and 'learning environment' repeatedly. There are also some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'provide learning environment' (should be 'provide a learning environment') and 'make difficulties' (should be 'cause difficulties'). To reach a higher band, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and collocations, and ensure that your word forms are accurate in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('formal education have been', 'system provide opportunities') and article usage ('in very young age'). While the meaning is generally understandable, these recurring errors prevent the text from reaching a higher band. You should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy, particularly with verb tenses and pluralization, and aim to vary your sentence structures with more complex, error-free constructions.
