Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 250 words, containing only 181 words. Because of this severe under-length, the ideas cannot be fully developed, which places the score firmly in the lower bands. The student does attempt to address all parts of the prompt, agreeing with the notion that schools focus too much on formal learning and stating that play is important in primary classrooms. However, the supporting arguments are repetitive, underdeveloped, and lack specific examples from the student's own experience as requested by the prompt. Phrases like 'one part of people who believe schools focus much time on formal learning' show a partial engagement with the task, but the lack of thorough development and the length penalty limit this criterion to a Band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay attempts a logical structure by using introductory and transitional phrases such as 'To commence with' and 'Moving further'. However, paragraphing is poorly handled, with large blocks of text that merge distinct points together. Cohesive devices are frequently mechanical, inaccurate, or repetitive, such as 'Some primary schools children loss their interest... So they need...'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly with ambiguous pronouns and disjointed transitions between sentences. While there is a basic attempt to sequence ideas, the overall progression is disrupted by faulty cohesion and weak paragraph structuring, aligning with the descriptors for Band 5.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited and basic, featuring frequent errors in word choice and spelling (e.g., 'learing' instead of learning, 'agrue' instead of argue, 'studnets' instead of students, 'phycial' instead of physical, 'exrta' instead of extra). The student attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'formal learning' and 'educational games', but the range is narrow and repetitive ('formal books', 'formal study', 'formal learning'). These noticeable errors in spelling and word formation cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a Band 5.0 level of lexical resource.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The grammatical range is extremely limited, relying heavily on simple sentences and awkward clause structures that frequently fail. There are frequent errors in basic grammar, such as missing articles ('is most important part in human life'), incorrect prepositions ('for only class books', 'use to with formal study'), and subject-verb agreement issues ('children loss', 'students are only use to'). Attempts at complex structures are often faulty and cause strain for the reader. Because errors are frequent and pervasive throughout the text, this performance corresponds to a Band 4.0.
