Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the present day, there has been a wide discussion among people about the focus of primary schools on inetnse formal learning. I strongly agree with this statement.

To begin with, book knowledge is temporary and students do not acquire proper development if the focus is only on studies. It is vital for children to play as well as learn in primary schools because it will support in their holistic development. When children are exposed to various activities they tend to learn things faster and understand them in better manner . As a matter of fact, schools should madatorily involve these activites in children's daily routines.

Moreover, playing with their classmates would instill a sense of empathy in them and they would be able to socialize and understand themselves and other people better which in turn would also boost their confidence. Beisdes, one of the drawbacks of formal learning is its rigid structure which focuses more on exams rather than understanding the concepts and applying them in real life. They also get less individual attention and a standard curriculum may not adequately accomodate students with different interests and career goals. Meanwhile, when children are introduced with playful tactics they acutally take interest which will help them figure out what suits the best for them.

To sum up, formal learning does not help students to figure out their interests and aspirations and it might bore them. They might also lack practical knowledge and necessary skills. On the other hand, the perspective of giving children time and space to play as well as learn would assist their cognitive development.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The student addresses all parts of the prompt, expressing a clear position on the focus of primary schools and discussing the importance of play in the classroom. The ideas presented are generally relevant, such as the benefits of play for holistic development, social skills, and mitigating the rigid nature of formal exams. However, some arguments lack deep extension, and terms like 'inetnse' and 'madatorily' contain typos that slightly blur the precise intent. The response covers the prompt satisfactorily and earns a solid band 6.5.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with logical paragraphing, separating the introduction, main body points, and conclusion clearly. Cohesive devices are used adequately, such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'To sum up', although referencing and transitions can occasionally feel a bit mechanical. There is a clear logical progression throughout the text, allowing the reader to follow the student's arguments without confusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, leading to a consistent band 6.5 performance in this category.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range suitable for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'holistic development', 'cognitive development', and 'empathy'. However, there are multiple spelling and lexical errors throughout the text, including 'inetnse', 'madatorily', 'activites', 'Beisdes', 'accomodate', and 'acutally'. These errors show that while the lexical range is sufficient to communicate ideas, control over spelling and precise word choice requires improvement. This performance aligns closely with band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at complex structures such as conditional and relative clauses. There are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings, such as 'support in their holistic development' instead of 'support their holistic development', and 'when children are introduced with playful tactics'. Punctuation errors, such as missing spaces after commas, also occur. Nevertheless, the errors rarely impede overall communication, placing the grammatical performance firmly in the band 6.0 category.
