Student answer (Band 6.0)
A significant number of people argue that elementary schools focus too much on learning. There has been a growing concern about this, like many institutes have to organize co-curricular activities for children, to develop their cognitive abilities and interpersonal skills. I partly agree with this view, as both sides have valid points.
In contemporary society, education plays a vital role in human life. Many institutions of different countries are implementing a new methods of teaching to children, such as smart classes and one to one interaction focus, so that teachers could understand the student abilities, like their strength and weakness. For instance, a JG international school in India had organized a sports competition and learning, they just want to identify that, which students can perform well in co-curricular activities and who are more intelligent in academic subjects. Through this, they found that those students who plays recreational activities are more physically and mentally active and score very well in exams, as compared to those who does not participate in this activities are facing the anxiety issues.
On the other hand, there are some drawbacks of this new approach. It is not a good thing for their future, like the students who are interested in these type of recreational activities, they not particular focus on their primary subjects. In future, if they want to apply for upsc or government jobs, then these skills are useful, but they also need to clear the academic entrance test, which requires the knowledge of science and maths. They can not rely on their extra curricular subjects and skills.
In conclusion, it is necessary for primary schools to balance their schedule and focus on both things in academic and co-curricular activities. Which help the students to cope with mental issues and physical active.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the two-part prompt by discussing the extent of agreement regarding formal learning and explaining the importance of play in the primary classroom. A clear position is established in the introduction ('I partly agree with this view') and maintained throughout the essay. Ideas are extended, such as the discussion on cognitive abilities and interpersonal skills, although some examples, like the reference to 'JG international school in India', are slightly underdeveloped and anecdotal. The conclusion neatly summarizes the stance taken. The response fits into Band 6 by addressing all parts with relevant ideas, even though some arguments could be further elaborated with stronger supporting evidence.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a logical progression of ideas from introduction to conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct points, such as the benefits of recreational activities versus the potential drawbacks. However, cohesion at the sentence level is occasionally faulty or mechanical, with transitional phrases like 'like many institutes' and 'On the other hand, there are some drawbacks' showing limited flexibility. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly the pronoun usage in 'Which help the students to cope with mental issues and physical active' in the concluding fragment. Overall, the organizational structure is clear enough to secure a solid Band 6.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'cognitive abilities', 'interpersonal skills', 'contemporary society', and 'recreational activities'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation errors that prevent a higher score, such as 'implementing a new methods' (incorrect plural agreement), 'not particular focus' (incorrect word form), and 'extra curricular subjects' (collocation mismatch). Spelling is generally accurate, and although vocabulary usage is somewhat basic in places, meaning is rarely impeded, comfortably placing this response in the Band 6 descriptor category.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing subordinate clauses and conditional structures. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent throughout the essay. There are frequent errors in verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and sentence boundaries, such as 'those students who plays' (singular/plural mismatch), 'compared to those who does not participate in this activities' (multiple grammatical errors), and the sentence fragment ending the essay ('Which help the students...'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur regularly and limit the proportion of error-free sentences, aligning the grammar score strictly with Band 5.
