Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The candidate addresses all parts of the two-part prompt, offering an opinion on formal learning and discussing the importance of play alongside study in primary schools. A position is presented, stating that both education and games must be provided to students. However, the development of ideas is limited and sometimes repetitive. For instance, the discussion on how games relax the mind relies on basic assertions like "a kid start working from the morning to afternoon with the boaring subject lessons" without deeper elaboration or precise examples. While the overall scope of the task is covered, the arguments lack extension, placing the response securely in the Band 5.5 to 6.0 territory. Because the ideas are relevant and all prompts are addressed, it meets the criteria for Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear four-paragraph structure. Each paragraph has a discernible focus, moving from an introduction to two body paragraphs and a conclusion. However, cohesion is frequently faulty or mechanical. Transition signals are limited and sometimes misused, such as "While the others argue with this statement" and "The proved of playing game are effectively boost the mind". Paragraphing is present, but referencing and logical progression within paragraphs are occasionally unclear, particularly in the second body paragraph where sentences feel disconnected. Overall, the organizational framework is adequate for a Band 5.0, as the relationships between ideas are sometimes strained by cohesive errors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to communicate basic concepts regarding education and play. However, there are numerous noticeable errors in word choice, form, and spelling, such as "eduction" instead of education, "boaring" instead of boring, "enhaced" instead of enhanced, and "staratergies" instead of strategies. Attempts to use less common items, such as "productivity," "interpret," and "motivation," often result in awkward collocations or incorrect grammatical forms (e.g., "the proved of playing game"). These inaccuracies cause some difficulty for the reader and reflect a limited, minimally adequate lexical range, aligning with Band 5.0 descriptors.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent errors in verb tense, subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure throughout the text. Examples include "games provide to kids with study", "a kid start working... he become", and "game and study are two major sites basic education to rised the IQ-level". Punctuation is also problematic in places. While some sentences are understandable, the high frequency of grammatical errors often causes difficulty and distraction for the reader, placing this performance at Band 5.0.
