Some people argue that primary schools focus too much on formal learning.

To what extent do you agree with this opinion?

How important do you think it is for children to play as well as learn in the primary school classroom?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Certain people assert that grade schools focus more on academic learning than recreational activities. I agree with this opinion and I believe that children should equally give time for playing as learning in school.

The mind of a child is excellent and extra creative in the age of grade schools. Most of the kids are imaginative and their learning capabilities are superb. On that being said, recreational activities are important in primary schools. It will help them developed critical thinking, creativity and wise decision making.

For example in Japan, aside from they have dedicated time to play in the class, they are also given a time where they are being taught how to do household chores. From this point, we can conclude that Japan are not only giving importance to academic learning but also it's imperative to them to learn about household chores which we can see as recreational activities.

Moreover, while playing, the children will develop social awareness, confidence and the skill of communication by interaction from other kids. These factors are vital in adult life especially at different jobs. They will learn the importance of social skills to adapt any situation in the future life.

Academic learning is undeniably crucial in a child's development, it is essential for them that in a young age they know the different areas of education. Subsequently, playing and recreational activities are vital as well for grade schooler developments. It is important to give equal time to different aspects of learning especially as a child
