Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to address both parts of the prompt regarding formal learning in primary schools and the importance of play. However, the position is somewhat confusing, as the writer states 'I totally disagreed with this statement' but then spends much of the text discussing how schools should teach good manners and that primary schools are unfairly undervalued. The ideas are repetitive and underdeveloped, particularly regarding international standards and societal views. While the prompt is touched upon, the arguments lack clear extension and logical support, aligning the response with the Band 5 descriptor where ideas are limited and the position is not always clearly sustained throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the logical progression and overall flow are frequently disrupted by confusing transitions and repetitive statements. Cohesive devices are used in a basic and sometimes inaccurate manner, such as the mechanical repetition of introductory markers ('Firstly', 'Secondly') without strong subsequent links. Referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult to follow the line of argument from one sentence to the next. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion fails to guide the reader smoothly through the writer's thoughts. This performance corresponds well to Band 5, where organisation is present but lacks clear overall progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The lexical range is limited and repetitive throughout the essay. The student repeatedly relies on basic vocabulary such as 'good manners', 'primary schools', 'formal learning', and 'life matters'. There are noticeable word choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'inappericiate', 'fees of these schools have very high', and 'high culture tradations'. These lexical slips and spelling mistakes occasionally cause some difficulty for the reader in fully grasping the intended meaning. Because the vocabulary is minimally adequate to express basic ideas but falls short of flexible or precise usage, a score of 5.0 is appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The writing demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures. Most sentences are simple or attempt complex forms that result in frequent grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('the primary schools of our today society'), incorrect verb forms ('Some peoples think', 'focus to much'), and faulty subject-verb agreement ('Schools is the place'). Punctuation and spacing errors are also prevalent, with missing spaces after commas and periods. These frequent errors cause strain and difficulty for the reader, fitting the Band 4 descriptor where errors are frequent, though meaning is still partially retrievable.
