Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The letter includes a celebration idea and some reasons for meeting again: you propose gathering at your farmhouse, enjoying a bonfire and swimming, and catching up about college and life. However, the response does not address the task accurately: it repeatedly describes a birthday anniversary rather than ten years since leaving college, and it is addressed to “Dear friends” rather than one college friend. The reason for celebrating is only partly explained, and the required request for help organising the event is missing. The invitation is clear, but the main purpose and all three bullet points need to be covered directly. State that this is a college reunion, explain why this format suits the group, and ask your friend to take on specific organising tasks.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is some basic organisation: the opening introduces an invitation, the next paragraph gives activities, and the final paragraph returns to the event. This gives the reader a rough sense of the message. However, the progression is not consistently clear. The long paragraph about business travel and your cousin’s suggestion interrupts the explanation of the celebration, and the connection between these details and the event is not always easy to follow. Linking phrases such as “It has been a long time since we met” could lead naturally into the reunion plan, while a separate paragraph could explain the venue and activities. Use clearer paragraphing and references, and arrange the information in the order of the task points.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough basic vocabulary to communicate the general idea, including “gather,” “celebrate,” “farm house,” “swimming area,” and “future plans.” There are also attempts at more specific event language, such as “bonfire.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or spellings make the letter less natural, including “birthday anniversary,” “Arrange my birthday anniversary event,” “disuss,” and “bithday.” Some phrases are repeated rather than varied. Choose vocabulary that matches the occasion, such as “college reunion” or “ten-year anniversary,” and use natural collocations for planning and inviting people. Proofreading spelling and word forms would make your meaning easier to read.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response mainly uses simple statements and attempts a few longer sentences, for example, “It has been long time we met eachother” and the sentence beginning “I was to busy in life.” These attempts show some willingness to connect ideas, but the longer structures are often difficult to follow. Errors include missing articles in “It has been long time,” tense and clause problems in “Suddenly came to pakistan and was doing meeting,” and inconsistent capitalisation and punctuation. The opening also joins several ideas with commas instead of separating them into clear sentences. Practise accurate past and present forms, articles, and sentence boundaries; shorter, correctly formed sentences would improve clarity before you attempt more complex structures.
