Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear smith,
Hey! how are you? I am writing this to invite you for a party, which i organize to celebrate my this year anniversary. To make this moment memorable, i have invited all of classmates from college time. There will be many special things in this celebration like local well known artist will give the guitar performance and couples can take participate in fun game. At the end of event, one couple will be nominated for prize.
By doing so, everyone will be happy because this kind of atmosphere give people chance to create amiable relationships with each other. Moreover, after a long time, we will have an opportunity to meet with our old friends as many of them moved to different cities due to their work responsibilities.
At last, i would be grateful if you can help me for arrangements like manage everything on the day of celebration because i will be busy with guests. I hope you would assist me.
warm regards,
Maninder Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three requested points: you propose a party, explain that it could help old classmates reconnect, and ask your friend to manage arrangements on the day. The examples of a guitar performance, games and a prize make the event more concrete. The reason for celebrating is relevant, especially the point that classmates have moved to different cities, but the explanation of why this particular format would be enjoyable is less fully developed. The request for help is also somewhat broad: “manage everything” does not specify particular tasks. Clarifying the event’s timing or venue and naming practical duties, such as coordinating food or welcoming guests, would make the letter more complete and purposeful.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall arrangement: the opening introduces the invitation and event, the next paragraph explains its social value, and the final paragraph asks for help. This logical progression makes the message easy to follow. You also use linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “At last” to signal relationships between ideas. To make the organisation more natural and cohesive, use paragraph transitions that fit the relationship more precisely; “At last” sounds like a final item in a sequence rather than a request. Some references are also broad, particularly “this kind of atmosphere” and “everything,” so naming the specific event or tasks would help the reader follow the details more clearly.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a friendly invitation, including “memorable,” “amiable relationships,” “responsibilities” and “nominated for prize.” These choices show an attempt to use more than basic wording, and the intended meaning is generally clear. However, some word choices and combinations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “take participate,” “guitar performance” and “help me for arrangements.” Capitalisation and spelling conventions also need attention, including “smith” and repeated lowercase “i.” Aim for natural collocations and precise event vocabulary, for example, “take part in a game,” “a guitar performance” and “help with the arrangements.” This would make the letter sound more fluent and appropriately informal.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “a party, which i organize” and a reason clause beginning “because.” The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction. For example, “which i organize” needs a tense consistent with the planned event, while “this kind of atmosphere give” has a subject–verb agreement error. “All of classmates” also needs a determiner, and “if you can help me” would be more appropriate as “if you could help me” in this polite request. Review sentence boundaries and capitalisation as well. More accurate control of these patterns would strengthen the letter while preserving its friendly tone.
