It is ten years since you left college. You'd like to organise an event to celebrate this anniversary with all your friends and classmates from college.
Write a letter to one of your college friends. In your letter
• say what kind of celebration event you'd like to organise
• explain why you think it would be good to celebrate in this way
• describe what help you need to organise this event
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Peace,
How are you and your family, is being a while since we get in touch, hope everything is going on well with you.
obviously, you know is being years since i left school, and i feel the need to organise a reunion incluing classmate and friends.
owever, since all of us have being communicating in the platform for years now, without seeing this reunion will help bring us together once again to bond with our old time friends catch up the lost year and enjoy the sense of togetherness we once had back then in school.
Certainly, i would need help with enquiry on the event vanue. For instance i have three event centres and i need someone that can chack out for me the hall capacity as we would be having up to 100 people including classmate and friends. In addition, i want help on purchase of refreshment. For example, i want to serve chicken pepper soup so i need someone who can go to the nearby poultry farm and buy sizable chicken about 60 in number.
Basically, i would like to know if you will be available before the date to help me out with the arrangement.
Your friend,
Wendy

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requested points: you propose a reunion, explain that it would help former classmates reconnect, and ask Peace to check venue capacity and help buy refreshments. The specific details—up to 100 guests and chicken for the meal—make the practical request clear. Your reason for choosing a reunion is relevant, but the explanation is somewhat compressed, and the event itself could be described more fully, for example by saying when or where you hope to hold it and what activities it might include. The request for help is clearer and more developed than the celebration plan. Overall, the letter fulfils the task, with some ideas developed more fully than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a recognisable progression from greeting, to the reunion idea and its purpose, to practical arrangements and a closing question. Paragraphing helps separate these stages, and connectors such as “For instance” and “In addition” guide the reader through the requests. However, some links between ideas are unclear: the sentence beginning “however” does not clearly contrast with the previous point, and “without seeing this reunion” makes the relationship between online communication and meeting in person difficult to follow. The opening also combines several thoughts in one sentence. Use clearer transitions and divide longer sentences so each paragraph develops one main point; this would make the organisation more consistently smooth.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for organising a reunion, including “event centres,” “hall capacity,” “refreshment,” and “togetherness,” and the concrete food and guest details help communicate your plans. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “catch up” and “bond.” However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural combinations are noticeable, including “incluing,” “vanue,” “chack out,” and “catch up the lost year.” Some wording is also repetitive, particularly “help” and “classmate and friends.” These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the main message, but more accurate spelling and natural collocations would improve clarity and flexibility. Proofread carefully and learn common phrases for reunions and event planning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a reason clause with “since” and a detailed request beginning “For instance.” The main message is generally recoverable, but errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries occur across the letter. For example, “is being a while since we get in touch” needs a complete, correctly formed clause, while “all of us have being communicating” uses the wrong verb form. The opening sentence also joins several clauses with commas, and “i feel the need to organise” shifts into a sentence without a clear subject in the preceding clause. Practise accurate present perfect forms and break long sentences into complete clauses; this will make your varied structures easier to follow.
