Dear ....................................,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Lizzy,

How are you doing? Hope your sister is feeling better now. I'm writing to inform you that I would like to celebrate the ten years anniversary we left the college and I want to used this medium to invite you because all our classmates would be present.

In all honesty, I have been looking forward to an event like this. I want it to be a get-together party with our old friends. Lizzy, it has been ten solid years we left the school, I believe it will be fun partying with all of you.

However, I think it will be a good thing to celebrate this event this way because we would have enough time to gist, play and dance together. In addition, I believe our coming together can create opportunities for some of us who need help in one or the order.

Furthermore, I would like you to hep me in planning for this event since you are an event planner, especially the arrangement of the hall.I want it to be a memorable one for everybody.

Thanks, as I await your response my dear friend.

Yours sincerly,

Betty.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all three points in the task: you propose a get-together party, explain that classmates can “gist, play and dance together,” and ask Lizzy to help with planning, particularly the hall arrangements. The friendly opening and closing also suit a personal letter. The reasons are relevant, but some are only briefly stated: the idea that meeting could create opportunities for people who need help is not explained, and the event plan could be more specific about what the celebration would involve. The response therefore covers the task, though some parts are developed more fully than others. To strengthen it, add a little detail about the proposed event and explain more clearly why this format would be meaningful for the group.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter has a clear overall shape, moving from the invitation and event idea to reasons, a request for help, and a closing. Paragraphing helps separate these functions, and connectors such as “In addition” and “Furthermore” make the progression easy to follow. Some linking is mechanical, however, because several paragraphs begin with transition words rather than developing a more natural flow. The relationship between the claim that the gathering will be fun and the later point about creating opportunities for classmates could also be made clearer. The request for help is understandable, but the transition into it feels abrupt. Use references such as “the reunion” consistently and connect each reason more directly to the proposed celebration.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas and maintain a warm, informal tone, with phrases such as “get-together party” and “memorable one.” However, several choices are awkward or imprecise for this context. “Celebrate the ten years anniversary we left the college” is not a natural way to describe the reunion, while “gist” may not be understood by all readers in an international letter. “One or the order” also appears to be an inaccurate expression. Spelling slips such as “hep” and “sincerly” reduce accuracy. Aim for more standard collocations and check spelling carefully; this will make the message sound more fluent and precise without changing its friendly style.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including “I believe it will be fun partying with all of you” and a sentence explaining why the event would be worthwhile. The main message remains understandable, but some grammatical errors are noticeable. For example, “I want to used” should use the base verb after “want to,” and “it has been ten solid years we left the school” needs a clearer time construction, such as “it has been ten years since we left.” The sentence beginning “I would like you to…” also needs punctuation between the clauses, and “the arrangement of the hall.I want” requires a space and sentence boundary. Review verb forms, time expressions, and punctuation to improve control.
