Dear ....................................,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Areeba,

Hope you are doing well. its too long since we all meet and have gossips. I miss all that gathering and parties which we celebrated in our college days. I would like to organize a college reunion party, where we all meet again, having gossip and get to know about each other. For that I booked a ballroom where all college classmates, teacher's and principle are invited. As I know some of our classmates are married and having kids, so I arranged different children related games like musical chair, truth & dare and many more.

Sara husband was an event planner so she help me alot in organizing this and make all the arrangements including decorations, food menu arrangements and also had a soft music.

I think this will be the best idea to reunite with some old friends and get to know about each other.

I hope you will surely attend this event. I'm much excited to meet you all.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three points: you propose a reunion party, explain that it would let former classmates reconnect, and mention help with planning and arrangements. The ballroom, invitations to teachers and the principal, and activities for children make the event more concrete. The explanation of why this format is suitable is relevant, but it repeats the idea of meeting and catching up rather than developing further benefits. The help requested from your friend is also not explicit: you describe Sara’s husband helping, but do not clearly say what you want Areeba to do. To strengthen the response, explain the event’s advantages in more detail and make a direct, specific request for your friend’s assistance.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter follows a generally clear sequence: you begin with a personal greeting, introduce the reunion, describe arrangements, and close by expressing enthusiasm. This makes the main purpose easy to follow. However, the middle section moves quickly from the ballroom and guests to children’s games and then to Sara’s husband, without clearly grouping the event details and the help needed. Some links are also repetitive, particularly the repeated idea of meeting and getting to know one another. Use separate paragraphs for the event plan, its benefits, and the assistance you need, and connect these ideas with clearer transitions. A direct request near the end would also give the letter a more purposeful progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the event and its arrangements, including “reunion party,” “ballroom,” “decorations,” and “food menu.” These details suit the informal letter. However, several choices are imprecise or unnatural, such as “have gossips,” “children related games,” and “had a soft music.” There are also spelling and word-form issues, including “alot” and “principle” when referring to a school leader. Repeated use of “meet” and “get to know about each other” limits variety. Aim for more natural collocations and precise event vocabulary, such as “catch up,” “activities for children,” and “background music.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response includes both simple sentences and some longer structures, for example the sentence beginning “As I know some of our classmates are married…” This shows an attempt to vary sentence forms, and the overall meaning remains understandable. However, some grammatical errors recur: “its too long since we all meet” needs corrected tense and sentence structure, while “Sara husband was an event planner so she help me” has errors in possession and verb agreement. The sentence about the ballroom also has an unclear construction around who is invited. Review past and present verb forms, possessive apostrophes, and agreement, and punctuate longer sentences more carefully. More accurate control of these patterns would make the letter smoother.
