Dear Amit,

I hope you are doing great.

I am very thankful that you made my visit so smooth and memorable. I want to say you a heartful thankyou, you helped me alot during my visit. I find myself quite lucky to have a friend like you who offer me a house or food during my stay at Montreal.

It was a really great expereince staying at your place and I really enjoyed the food you offer me that was really tasty and favourful I don't think I could find a better place to eat food than that.

Next very exciting thing I wanna tell you that I'm throwing a huge house warming party. I would be very greatful if you come and enjoy the party at brampton. I have told my family about you that you have helped me alot during my stay at Montreal they are so exciting to meet you.

I hope you wouldn't mind it and come to the party on 23rd September 2026.

With love,

Siya.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The letter successfully covers all the requirements of the prompt by thanking the friend for their hospitality in Montreal and inviting them to an upcoming housewarming party in Brampton. The tone is appropriate for an informal letter to a friend, and the purpose is clear throughout. The ideas are extended, such as mentioning the family's excitement to meet Amit and specifying the date of the party (23rd September 2026). While some expressions are slightly repetitive and conversational, all parts of the task are adequately addressed. According to the band descriptors, this performance aligns well with Band 6.5 to 7.0, and since all elements are properly covered, a score of 6.5 is well-earned here.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter is generally coherent with a clear overall progression. The student organises the response into logical paragraphs, moving smoothly from expressing gratitude for the Montreal trip to announcing the housewarming party in Brampton. However, paragraphing could be slightly more refined, and some cohesive devices are basic or repetitive (e.g., using 'really' multiple times). Referencing and linking between ideas are mostly clear, though some transitions feel a bit conversational rather than cohesive. Overall arrangement satisfies the criteria for Band 6.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common expressions like 'heartful thankyou', 'favourful', and 'house warming party'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'thankyou' (thank you), 'alot' (a lot), 'expereince' (experience), 'favourful' (flavorful), 'greatful' (grateful), and 'exciting' (excited). These errors do not impede communication, but they prevent the score from reaching higher bands. The lexical range is sufficient for a Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some attempt at varied structures (e.g., conditional and relative clauses like 'I find myself quite lucky to have a friend like you who offer me a house or food'). However, there are grammatical errors relating to subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'who offer me', 'that was really tasty') and tense consistency. Punctuation is generally acceptable, though some run-on sentences occur. The errors occasionally cause minor strain but rarely impede overall communication, placing this response firmly in the Band 6 category.
