Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Mitesh,
How've you been? I hope you are doing well. It feels like ages since we last caught up! I have a good news for you. Guess what? I am writing to invite you to a house warming party, which will be held at the end of this month. As you know, your presence means a lot to me, don't forget to attend it.
With regard to my new house, it is located on the outskirts of my city. Although my house is not spacious, it is well-organized and gives us a sense of serenity and welcoming. In addition, there are plenty of plants in our backyard. What impressed me the most is the atmosphere in my neighborhood because it is lively and enchanting.
The party will be held on Sunday, 26th October, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., so you could pop over to my place beforehand. Afterwards, we can grab a bite and catch up on all the gossip, which would be a perfect chance to let our hair down.
Fingers crossed you're free! Drop me a line and see you seen.
Take care,
Miral Khunt

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 8.0
The letter effectively covers all the communicative requirements of an invitation to a housewarming party. The tone is appropriately friendly, warm, and personal, suiting an informal letter to a friend. The writer successfully opens with a greeting and statement of purpose, describes the new house and neighborhood with interesting details such as being on the outskirts and having a lively atmosphere, and provides precise practical details regarding the date and time of the party, including a suggestion to arrive early. All parts of the prompt are fully addressed with well-developed ideas, and the purpose of the communication is crystal clear throughout the response. Therefore, it satisfies the criteria for a high band level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 8.0
The letter exhibits a clear logical organisation and natural progression from the friendly opening, through the description of the new property and the party details, down to the warm closing. Paragraphing is used logically and effectively to separate distinct topics: the invitation and house description in the first two paragraphs, and the specific event timing and closing in the remaining paragraphs. Cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'In addition', 'What impressed me the most', and 'Afterwards' are managed very well and contribute to a smooth flow. Reference pronouns are used accurately to maintain cohesion throughout the text without any awkward repetitions or disruptions.
Lexical Resource: Band 7.0
The writer demonstrates a very good range of vocabulary appropriate for an informal letter, employing natural idioms and descriptive phrases such as 'caught up', 'on the outskirts', 'sense of serenity', 'pop over', and 'let our hair down'. There is an occasional slip, most notably in the phrase 'I have a good news for you' where 'news' is an uncountable noun and should not take the indefinite article 'a', as well as a minor spelling typo in the closing line ('see you seen' instead of 'see you soon'). However, the lexical range is sufficiently flexible and precise, allowing the writer to convey subtle nuances easily.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.5
The response features a good mix of simple, compound, and complex sentence structures, showcasing control over dependent clauses (e.g., 'which will be held at the end of this month', 'Although my house is not spacious'). The majority of sentences are error-free, and punctuation is handled correctly throughout. Minor errors like the misuse of the article with 'good news' and the typo 'seen' for 'soon' are isolated and do not impede communication in any way. The grammatical range is fully adequate to achieve a natural, conversational flow while maintaining a high degree of structural accuracy.
