• describe what help you need to organise this event

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear ....................................,

Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear samiya,

Hope you are doing well. It has been 10 years since we graduated, truly time does flies. To reminiscence, I was hoping to throw a party at our old hangout spot by the lake and invite all of our fellow classmates. Since it is a reunion, I was thinking we all could dress up as we used to back in collage a decade ago.

This theme seems so fun as imagine everyone of us dressed as back in the university. We were so young and had zero fashion sense. Moreover, it will remind us how we were before and have evolved so far. In addition, since the party is at our old popular place, it will certainly bring many memories as well embrassing stories.

I already took care of majority of tasks for event, however I really need your help with decoration as I am really not good at it. If you can sent me the list of iteams you will require, I will purchase it and bring it to you on the day.

Hopefully, we will have blast at a party.

Regards,

Najmin

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The student covers all parts of the task well. All three bullet points are fully addressed: the writer proposes a party at the old hangout spot by the lake with a dress-code theme, explains why this is a good idea by highlighting nostalgia and past fashion choices, and describes the need for help with decorations. The tone is appropriately informal and friendly for a letter to a college friend. The ideas are well-developed and relevant throughout, satisfying the requirements for a solid Band 7 or 8 level performance. However, because some minor points are slightly brief, a score of 7.0 is well-justified based on the descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter exhibits a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. The response is divided into logical paragraphs, beginning with a friendly greeting, followed by the main proposal, the explanation, the request for help, and a warm sign-off. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'In addition', and 'however' are used reasonably well to guide the reader through the text, although referencing is occasionally a bit mechanical ('list of iteams you will require'). Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, resulting in an overall coherent structure that matches the Band 7 descriptors.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.5

The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary with some flexibility and precision, using phrases like 'hangout spot', 'fashion sense', and 'embrassing stories' (note the spelling typo). There are attempts at less common vocabulary items, although occasional errors in word choice and spelling occur, such as 'time does flies' instead of 'time flies', 'collage' instead of 'college', and 'iteams'. These errors do not impede communication and are characteristic of a Band 6.5 or 7.0 performance. Overall, the lexical range is adequate to convey the intended message effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures ('If you can sent me...') and subordinate clauses. There are several grammatical errors and typos present, such as 'time does flies', 'everyone of us dressed as back in the university', 'have evolved so far', and 'sent me' instead of 'send me'. While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication, and the meaning remains clear throughout. This balance of complex structures with persistent minor errors fits comfortably within the Band 6 criteria.
