Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response successfully covers all the bullet points outlined in the prompt. You clearly stated the kind of celebration event you would like to organise, which is a get-together at 'Imperial Tandoor' with a unique college-professor dress-up theme. You also explained why this celebration style would be effective, noting that it allows everyone to contribute and brings back cherished college memories. Furthermore, you adequately described the help you need by asking Rohan to assist with creating and distributing flyers, making calls, and sending emails, while also mentioning that your uncle is sponsoring the event. The tone is semi-formal and appropriate for writing to a college friend. All parts of the task are fully addressed, showing good development of ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter demonstrates a clear overall progression and logical organisation. Ideas are grouped into coherent paragraphs, moving naturally from the invitation and event details to the reasons for the celebration, and finally to the specific requests for help. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Most importantly', and 'By celebrating this way' are used to connect ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical or abrupt, such as the sudden shift to discussing the uncle's sponsorship at the end. Paragraphing is used adequately to separate distinct topics, and referencing remains generally clear throughout the letter, allowing the reader to follow the train of thought easily.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common phrases such as 'over the moon', 'collaborately work', and 'Thank you in anticipation'. However, there are noticeable lexical and spelling errors, such as writing 'distrubing' instead of 'distributing' and 'collaborately' instead of 'collaboratively'. Additionally, phrases like 'invite you on an celebration party' contain minor prepositional inaccuracies ('on an celebration' should be 'to a celebration'). Despite these errors, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, and communication is never impeded.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional and participial clauses ('By celebrating this way we all would contribute...'). There are, however, several grammatical and punctuation errors that affect accuracy. For instance, the opening sentence contains a punctuation flaw and awkward phrasing ('Its been ages we have not seen each other'), and 'Your faithfully' at the sign-off is incorrect for a named recipient (it should be 'Yours sincerely'). Other minor issues include missing articles and tense inconsistencies. While these errors occur frequently, they rarely impede overall communication, placing the writing comfortably within the competent range.
