• describe what help you need to organise this event
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Aman,
I hope you are doing well. I cannot believe that its been ten years since we graduated from college. My purpose of writing this letter is to you is that I was planning to organise a Dj night party where all of us can get back together and have some fun.
If you remember, back in the days we all used to go hang out in the night at the local club on Main Street. We all are big fans of music and dancing so I thought of why not take everyone back in time and enjoy the same way we used to a decade ago. This will also be a great opportunity to re-unite with everyone and catch-up for the lost times.
But I figured there that I would need your help in doing this. You are good friends with the owner of the club, I tried to reserve the place for Saturday but he said he cannot accomodate us. If you could please request him to take our reservation I would really appreciate that.
to hear back from you.
Yours Lovingly,
Angad Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The student successfully covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. First, the writer clearly states the type of event they wish to organise, which is a "Dj night party." Second, they explain why this is a good choice by connecting it to past college memories and a shared love of music. Third, they describe the exact help needed from Aman, specifically requesting him to use his connection with the club owner to secure a reservation. The tone of the letter is appropriately friendly and informal for a General Training letter to a college friend. All parts of the task are well-developed, resulting in a solid band score for Task Achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter is logically organised with a clear beginning, middle, and end, following standard informal letter conventions. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, the rationale for the event, and the specific request for help. Cohesive devices are generally used well, with phrases like "If you remember" and "This will also be a great opportunity" ensuring a smooth flow of ideas. However, there are minor issues with referencing and phrasing, such as "The purpose of writing this letter is to you is that" and "But I figured there that I would need your help," which make some cohesive transitions a bit clunky. Overall progression is clear throughout.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
The student demonstrates an adequate to good range of vocabulary suited to an informal letter, using phrases like "take everyone back in time," "a decade ago," and "re-unite with everyone and catch-up for the lost times." There are some attempts at less common phrasing, but occasional word-choice and collocation errors occur, such as "My purpose of writing this letter is to you is that" (repetitive prepositional use) and spelling/typographical slips like "Dj" instead of "DJ" and "accomodate" instead of "accommodate." Despite these minor errors, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended message clearly and naturally without impeding communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating control over relative clauses and conditional structures, such as "If you remember, back in the days we all used to go hang out..." and "If you could please request him to take our reservation I would really appreciate that." However, there are several grammatical inaccuracies and punctuation issues, including "its been ten years" (missing apostrophe), "thought of why not take everyone" (awkward phrasing), and an incomplete closing sentence before the sign-off ("to hear back from you."). While these errors are noticeable, the majority of sentences are understandable, and communication is rarely impeded.
