It is ten years since you left college. You'd like to organise an event to celebrate this anniversary with all your friends and classmates from college.
Write a letter to one of your college friends. In your letter

• explain why you think it would be good to celebrate in this way
• describe what help you need to organise this event
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Hi Chatanya,
Hope you are doing well; it's been ages since we last caught up with each other. The reason I am writing this letter to you, that today I was going through our old college album, and while looking at it, the nostalgia hit me. I was thinking of holding a small get-together for all our college mates. I will book an Airbnb where I am thinking to invite everyone from our class. Also, in the dinner I have decided to order Italian food. Because I still remember that it is your favorite food. It would be very good if everyone could join us; we will relive and create new memories. Moreover, I am not in touch with most of our friends because of my busy schedule.
I also need your help in contacting our classmates because I do not have everyone's contact number, or we can create a group and add everyone to the same group and send the invitation to it. I can't wait to hear back from you.
See you soon.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You successfully cover all three bullet points required in the task instructions. You clearly state the kind of celebration event you would like to organise by mentioning a small get-together at an Airbnb with Italian dinner. You explain why this is a good idea by noting that it will help everyone relive old memories and create new ones, and you thoughtfully include a personal touch regarding Italian food being your friend's favourite. Furthermore, you effectively describe the help you need, which is assistance in contacting classmates and setting up a group chat. The tone is appropriately informal and friendly throughout the letter, matching the General Training requirements well. All parts of the task are fully addressed with relevant details.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter maintains a clear and logical progression overall. You make appropriate use of opening and closing conventions and link ideas reasonably well with cohesive devices such as 'Also' and 'Moreover'. However, paragraphing could be improved to better separate distinct topics. Currently, the transition between describing the event, explaining the reasons, and asking for help feels a bit condensed into large blocks of text rather than distinct paragraphs for each main point. Referencing is generally clear, but dividing the text into structured paragraphs would enhance the overall flow and readability of the response.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using informal expressions like 'catch up', 'nostalgia hit me', and 'get-together'. There are some successful attempts at less common vocabulary items, though occasional word choice and phrasing could be polished for greater naturalness. For example, writing 'the reason I am writing this letter to you, that today I was going through' contains a structural slip in phrasing. Despite these minor lapses, your vocabulary is sufficiently precise to communicate your ideas clearly and maintain an appropriate casual tone.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You display a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, successfully using relative clauses and conditional structures such as 'Because I still remember that it is your favorite food' and 'It would be very good if everyone could join us'. However, there are some grammatical inaccuracies and punctuation issues. For instance, 'The reason I am writing this letter to you, that today I was going through' contains an awkward clause structure, and the sentence starting with 'Also, in the dinner' should use 'for dinner'. Additionally, some run-on tendencies appear in complex sentences. These errors do not impede communication, but they reflect a Band 6 level of control.
