Begin your letter as follows:
Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Bimpe,
It's been a while since we saw eachother, I hope you have been well. I would like to organize an event which would hold in two months time. This event has been set up to celebrate our ten years anniversary since we left Queens College.
I would like an event where the girls can dress up in their best outfit, interact with eachother and rekindle friendships. I already spoke with an event planner and she suggested that we do a black tie event because it fits the description of what I have in mind.
I agree with the planner since the ambience will be relaxed and organized. Also, we have many of our classmates that are now digniteries and I believe this is the best way to approach such an event.
There are some phone numbers of our friends that I lost throughout the years, I would like to ask if you can assist in reaching out to them and inviting them for the gathering. It would not be fair if everyone in our set is not present in such an event.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Best wishes,
Oyinloluwa

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.5
You successfully covered all parts of the task prompt in a natural, semi-formal tone appropriate for a letter to a college friend. You clearly stated the kind of event you want to organize, mentioning a black-tie gathering in two months to celebrate the ten-year anniversary since leaving Queens College. Furthermore, you explained why this celebration style is beneficial, highlighting that it allows friends to dress up, interact, and accommodate classmates who are now dignitaries in a relaxed yet organized ambience. Finally, you successfully described the help needed by asking your friend Bimpe to assist in reaching out to contacts whose phone numbers you have lost. The purpose of the letter is clear and fully realized.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.5
Your letter demonstrates a clear and logical progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a distinct focus, transitioning smoothly from the greeting and purpose of the letter in the opening paragraph, to the details of the event and the venue in the middle, and finally to your specific request for help. You used appropriate cohesive devices and referencing words, such as 'This event', 'I agree with the planner since...', and 'There are some phone numbers...'. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and effectively, making the letter easy and pleasant to follow from start to finish.
Lexical Resource: Band 7.0
You used a sufficient and generally natural range of vocabulary suitable for a personal yet socially focused letter, incorporating good phrases like 'rekindle friendships', 'event planner', and 'black tie event'. There are a few minor lexical inaccuracies or spelling errors, such as 'eachother' instead of 'each other', 'ten years anniversary' instead of 'ten-year anniversary', and 'digniteries' instead of 'dignitaries'. However, these minor slips do not impede communication, and you successfully attempted less common items with general awareness of style and collocation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0
You demonstrated good control over your grammatical structures, mixing simple and complex sentences effectively. Examples like 'I would like an event where the girls can dress up in their best outfit...' and 'There are some phone numbers of our friends that I lost throughout the years...' show a solid command of grammar. However, there is a minor comma splice in the opening sentence ('It's been a while since we saw eachother, I hope...') and a tense slip with 'would hold in two months time' instead of 'is going to be held'. Despite these minor errors, the majority of your sentences are accurate and meaning is never obscured.
