Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Festus,
its been a decade since we finished college and i'll like to set up an event with our friends and classmates celebrate our anniversary.
A personal hygiene/purberty education will really be nice to prepare for the students in our alma mata. Our friend Precious who is a renouned medical practioner could be in charge of this talk educating the students and also answering their questions.
Transitioning from a kid to a teenager and dealing with a lot of body change comes with a ton of questions and i feel this event is just a way of giving our knowledge and support back to the society. Sanitary pads could be given to the female students and customized books about the talk can be shared to the male students. Afterwards we the organizers can have a dinner party at a resturant just to catch up.
As you know, financial contributions is necessary to put all of this in place. In purchasing the sanitary pad and also customized books,so it will be nice if everyone can pull in their support.
Yours sincerely
Dorcas Fiyinfunoluwa.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The writer has addressed all parts of the prompt, though the core premise of celebrating a ten-year college anniversary takes a very unusual turn. Instead of a reunion celebration, the letter proposes organising a personal hygiene and puberty education event for students in the alma mater, followed by a dinner party. The first bullet point is covered by suggesting this educational event and a dinner party, the second is explained as giving back to society, and the third asks for financial contributions to purchase sanitary pads and books. However, the tone and content feel slightly mismatched with a typical ten-year college anniversary celebration, drifting into a community outreach project rather than a peer reunion. This impacts the full development of the task, leading to a band score of 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter is organised into four paragraphs with an appropriate opening and closing, showing a coherent overall arrangement. Paragraphing is used to separate different ideas, such as the type of event, the justification, the materials needed, and the call for financial support. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, the phrase 'As you know, financial contributions is necessary' lacks a space after the comma, and transitions between sentences can feel abrupt. Referencing is generally clear, but the logical progression from celebrating an anniversary with college friends to running a puberty education workshop for younger students feels disjointed, affecting the overall flow of the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'renouned', 'practioner', and 'customized'. However, there are several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, including 'its' instead of 'it's', 'purberty', 'renouned' (renowned), 'practioner' (practitioner), 'resturant' (restaurant), and 'pull in their support' (chip in or contribute). Additionally, 'financial contributions is' exhibits a subject-verb agreement error involving vocabulary structure. These lexical errors occasionally draw attention, but they do not impede communication, placing the response firmly at band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'Transitioning from a kid to a teenager and dealing with a lot of body change comes with a ton of questions'. However, there are frequent punctuation and grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing apostrophes ('i'll', 'its'), capitalization issues ('i'), and subject-verb agreement errors ('financial contributions is necessary'). Punctuation around clauses is also weak in places, such as missing spaces after commas. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the message, they occur frequently enough to prevent the response from reaching a higher band score.
