Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Friends,

I am writing to you for the invitation. I was recalling our beautiful moments that we shared in medical college and get overwhelmed. So, I decided to reach you all and plan a get together. As you know, on 22nd November it will be the tenth anniversary of our graduation. I would like to arrange an event on this auspacious moment. Let's get together and make new memories as a successful professionals.

I am planning to hire an event management team. They will see all the arrangements, seating plan, invitation to our teachers and prinicipal. Furthermore, food and menu will be handling by Gourmet cattering services. I think it will be good chance to celebrate it together, because many of us are in Pakistan for vacations. Otherwise, all the mates, who have moved abroad will not get a chance to meet us. On this occassion, I need your suggestion regarding a good place where the event should be held. So that the travel distance for everyone remains suitable. The event might end late at night and I don't want any discomfort to you.

Kindly response me at your earliest. I will be waiting for your warm response.

Best wishes,

Areeba

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response covers all parts of the prompt well. You successfully identified the type of celebration event you wish to organise, which is a tenth graduation anniversary get-together with an event management team and catering service. You explained why this timing is ideal because many college friends are currently visiting Pakistan. Furthermore, you described the specific help needed from your friends, namely suggestions for a suitable venue location. Although the greeting is addressed to 'Dear Friends' rather than an individual friend (which is a minor format slip for a letter), the purpose is fully achieved, and all bullet points are appropriately expanded with relevant, coherent details, fulfilling the requirements for Band 7.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter demonstrates a clear overall progression and logical organization. The introduction establishes the purpose of writing, the body paragraph outlines the arrangements and reasons for the celebration, and the concluding paragraph successfully requests a reply. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas. Cohesive devices are generally deployed effectively, such as 'Furthermore' and 'Otherwise', although referencing shows occasional minor awkwardness, such as in the opening sentences where the link between the invitation and recalling moments could be smoother. Overall, the flow is natural enough to guide the reader effortlessly through the message, satisfying the criteria for a solid Band 7.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary with some attempts at less common items, such as 'auspicious moment', 'event management team', and 'travel distance'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'auspacious' (spelled 'auspacious'), 'cattering' (catering), 'occassion' (occasion), and 'Kindly response me' (respond). The phrase 'make new memories as a successful professionals' also contains a grammatical mismatch. Because these lexical errors occasionally distract the reader without fully impeding communication, the vocabulary performance aligns best with Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating good communicative ability. However, there are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings present, such as 'I am writing to you for the invitation' (instead of 'regarding'), 'moments that we shared... and get overwhelmed' (tense inconsistency), and 'food and menu will be handling by' (passive voice error). Additionally, sentences like 'So that the travel distance for everyone remains suitable' represent sentence fragments. While these errors do not prevent comprehension, their frequency places the grammar performance firmly within the Band 6.0 descriptor range.
