Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Aman,

I hope you well and fine, I am thinking about farewell party because if we organized a party everyone have a chance to meet others after long time.

Moreover, it is good to celebrate in restaurant because we enjoy our peace of time while eating or dancing. Everyone have chance discuss their current stage of life and how's their life going on. I planned that everyone wear cultural cloths and bring something that which helps them to represent their culture.

In addition, I want need some help from you, because I have less experience in these kinds of thing. If you come few days earlier than we can easily handle all things. You would send invitation to all classmates and teachers and another work, you organised food court, be sure use healthy meal option for everyone.

I look forward hearing from you and see you soon.

Kind regards,

Jaskaran

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You have addressed all three bullet points required in the task instructions. You clearly stated the kind of celebration event you would like to organise, mentioning a reunion party involving cultural clothes and traditional sharing. You explained why this would be a good celebration, noting that it allows everyone to meet after a long time, enjoy food, and discuss their current lives. Finally, you described the help you need from your friend, asking them to arrive early, send invitations, and organise the food court. While your ideas are relevant and cover all parts of the prompt, they are somewhat basic and could be further extended for a higher band. However, your purpose is clear and the tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. Therefore, this fulfills the requirements for a Band 6.0.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical structure typical of an informal letter, starting with a friendly opening and concluding with appropriate sign-offs. You used basic cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'In addition', and 'If', although some transitions feel a bit mechanical. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas could be improved; for example, the second paragraph mixes the location, the activities, and the dress code all together. Referencing is generally clear, but occasional clunky phrasing affects the flow. Overall, the organisation is sufficient for a Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to communicate your general message. You attempt some less common vocabulary such as 'farewell party', 'cultural cloths', and 'healthy meal option', but these phrases contain noticeable inaccuracies or awkward word choices like 'cultural cloths' instead of 'traditional attire'. There are also minor spelling and collocation issues. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, and while communication is not impeded, the lexical control sits comfortably at a Band 5.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional clauses ('If you come few days earlier than we can easily handle all things'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including missing prepositions, subject-verb agreement issues ('Everyone have chance'), and tense inconsistencies ('I hope you well and fine'). Punctuation is also weak in places, such as comma splices linking independent clauses. These errors occasionally cause slight difficulty for the reader, but the meaning remains largely clear, aligning with a Band 5.0.
