Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Logan,
How's life been lately? It's been long since we have met. I'm writing this letter to inform you that I'm thinking to organise a small get together for our 2016 batch. Its been 10 years we have'nt seen eachother and nobody among us know what's going in everyone's life.
Do you remember the Dave hot chicken near our college where we use to spend our time after college? Yes, you heard it right. So we'll book the whole restaurant for the lunch and prinks. We can also hire a photographer for the memories we gonna make on that day.
I recently heard about Hyder and Jess getting married and there plan is to move to States after getting marraige.Celebrating this reunion at Dave chicken gonna be so nostalgic for everyone and we can look back to the time where we came from.
As you are in touch with most of us, all I want from you is to make a Whats app group Asap and let everbody in our group know that we are thinking to do something like this. I'm also gonna contact Dave hot chicken and let them know about our plan.
I hope everybody in our group show up for this reunion.
Your regards,
Atul

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The response covers all three bullet points required in the prompt. You successfully specified the kind of celebration event you want to organise, namely a small get-together at Dave's Hot Chicken, and explained why it would be nostalgic to celebrate there. Furthermore, you clearly described the help you need from Logan, which is to create a WhatsApp group and inform the other classmates. The tone is appropriately informal and friendly for a General Training letter to a college friend. Although there are some minor mechanical errors, all parts of the task are well-addressed and sufficiently developed, leading to a solid performance for this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter exhibits a clear and logical organisation. The text is divided into appropriate paragraphs, each serving a distinct purpose: greeting and introduction, the event plan and venue, reasons for nostalgia and updates, and finally a call to action requesting Logan's help. Cohesive devices are generally used effectively, such as 'I recently heard', 'As you are in touch', and 'I hope'. However, referencing and transitions could be slightly smoother in places, such as the sudden shift between paragraphs about the venue and Jess and Hyder's marriage. Overall, the message flows well and is easy to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate and functional range of vocabulary suitable for an informal letter. Phrases such as 'small get together', 'nostalgic', 'look back', and 'Asap' are appropriate for communicating with a friend. However, there are some noticeable vocabulary and spelling errors, such as 'have'nt', 'eachother', 'prinks' (likely a typo for drinks), 'there plan' (instead of their plan), 'marraige', and 'everbody'. These lexical and spelling inaccuracies prevent the response from achieving a higher band score, as they occasionally draw attention away from the content, though communication is never impeded.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating a reasonable command of grammar. Examples like 'I'm writing this letter to inform you that I'm thinking to organise...' and 'Do you remember the Dave hot chicken near our college where we use to spend our time...' show attempts at complex structures. However, there are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings throughout, including 'How's life been lately?', 'It's been long since we have met', 'nobody among us know what's going in everyone's life', and 'where we came from'. Punctuation and apostrophe usage are also inconsistent ('have'nt', 'eachother', 'gonna'). These errors mean the majority of sentences are not error-free.
