Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response covers all the bullet points required by the prompt, which places it at this level. You successfully identify the kind of celebration event you want to organise by suggesting a gathering in the college activity room to mark your tenth anniversary. You also explain why it is a good idea by mentioning the food and the nostalgic setting, and you describe the help you need by asking Nikki to create digital invitation cards. However, some of your ideas are slightly underdeveloped or lack finer detail, such as the explanation of why celebrating in this specific way is beneficial, which keeps the response from achieving a higher rating. To improve further, you should expand more fully on all parts of the task with greater elaboration and clearer supporting details.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

Your letter has an overall coherent arrangement, and the progression of ideas is generally clear to the reader. You use standard informal letter conventions, starting with a suitable opening to Nikki and moving logically through your plans, the food arrangements, and finally the request for help with invitations. Paragraphing is used to separate different points, such as mentioning the decorations and the food in distinct sections. Nevertheless, referencing and cohesion are sometimes a bit mechanical or faulty, as seen in run-on sentences like 'Our event gonna be best celebration as I planned to prepare different cuisines...'. To move up to the next level, ensure that your sentences are linked more smoothly and that cohesive devices are used with greater flexibility and precision throughout the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully communicating your message with everyday terms such as 'celebrate', 'decoration', and 'memorable'. You also make attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'anniversary' and 'cuisines'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that prevent a higher score, such as 'ballons' instead of balloons, 'sparkling' instead of sparkles or glitter, and awkward phrasing like 'It's been long time to see you'. Additionally, some words are repetitive or used informally. To reach a higher band, you need to use a wider and more precise range of lexical items with correct spelling, better collocation, and fewer errors in word formation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You manage to use a mix of simple and some complex sentence forms, such as conditional clauses ('if you could please make some digital invitation cards'). However, your writing contains frequent grammatical errors, particularly regarding punctuation, run-on sentences, and missing articles or prepositions. Examples include 'How you doing?', 'since so many days I'm missing', and 'Our event gonna be best celebration'. These errors require the reader to occasionally reread parts of your text to fully grasp the meaning. To achieve a better score, you need to produce a higher proportion of error-free sentences, improve your control over complex sentence structures, and pay closer attention to punctuation and verb forms.
