You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear ....................................,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear John,
It feels like ages since we last caught up! How have things been with you and your family? I'm writing to let you know that I'm planning a party to celebrate ten years anniversary with all my buddies and peers from college.
I'm considering a grand celebration at a farmhouse, where we'd have a pool and a dance floor as well. On top of that, I'm in contact with an event organiser company, they'll look after food, DJ, and farmhouse booking.
I think we're still young enough to celebrate this occassion like we used to do in our college days. Also, after very long time we'll be able to have a get together, so I think it must be a special one.
I'd be grateful if you could give me a hand in inviting all our college mates. Actually, I,ve lost the contacts of everyone from college because recently, I lost my mobile phone and the worst thing is I don't have the backup as well. So, kindly help me with this matter.
Anyway, let me know if you've any questions, and please give my best to your family.
Keep in touch,
Adam

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You successfully covered all parts of the letter prompt, ensuring that the purpose of the communication was clear from the outset. You described the kind of celebration event you would like to organise, explaining that a grand party at a farmhouse with a pool and dance floor would be ideal. Furthermore, you explained why celebrating in this way is a good idea, noting that you are still young enough to enjoy it like the old days and that it has been a very long time since the last get-together. Finally, you successfully described the help you need by asking John to assist with invitations because you lost your mobile phone and contacts. While all bullet points are addressed, some ideas show a slight tendency towards being slightly under-developed, which keeps the response at this solid level rather than pushing it higher. To reach a higher band, you could have expanded further on why a farmhouse specifically suits the collective personality of the group or added more vivid details about the planned activities.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
Your letter demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear and logical progression of ideas from the greeting through the purpose of the letter, details of the event, reasons for the celebration, and finally the request for help. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct topics, such as the event description in the second paragraph and the rationale in the third. However, your use of cohesive devices can occasionally feel a bit mechanical or repetitive, such as starting consecutive sentences with phrases like 'I'm considering' and 'I think'. In addition, referencing is not always completely seamless. To achieve a higher band, you could incorporate a wider variety of more sophisticated cohesive devices and transition words to connect your ideas more fluidly, ensuring that sentences flow into one another without relying on simple connectors.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You demonstrated an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common phrases like 'buddies and peers', 'event organiser company', and 'give me a hand'. However, there are some minor lexical and spelling errors that prevent a higher score, such as writing 'ten years anniversary' instead of 'ten-year anniversary' and misspelling 'occassion'. Despite these slips, your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate your message clearly and appropriately for an informal letter to a friend. To improve your lexical score further, you should aim to use a wider variety of precise, natural phrasing and ensure rigorous proofreading to eliminate minor spelling and word-choice inaccuracies before finalising your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
Your letter shows a satisfactory mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating your ability to handle different structures such as relative clauses ('where we'd have a pool') and conditional or temporal clauses. There are some grammar and punctuation errors present, such as a comma splice in '...event organiser company, they'll look after...' and a punctuation slip in 'I,ve lost'. Nevertheless, these errors are relatively minor and rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow your narrative effortlessly. To move up to a higher band, you need to demonstrate a greater variety of complex structures used with higher accuracy, alongside tighter punctuation control to ensure that independent clauses are separated correctly rather than joined by commas.
