You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Dear ....................................,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Avtar,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to inform you gladly that I am organising an event to celebrate my ten years college anniversary with all my college and class mates.

This event is going to be in summer season, so I booked a Wonderland park and we will be having the water party there. Apart from it, I have booked hotel rooms for friends and their families, so my friends can bring their families with them to enjoy the event.

As you all know this is going to be in summer season so I personally think it will be a good enjoyment for all of us in this upcoming hot weather. There are many sorts of roller coaster in the park and we all can have the ride together.

From my side everything is scheduled but not organised properly so please send me a list of people who are really joining us in this event so I can book specific tickets for each of them.

Take care. I hope to hear back from you soon.

Best regards,

Amrinder Singh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response covers all parts of the task, meeting the lower band requirement fully while showing features of the next. You successfully mention the kind of celebration event you would like to organise, explaining that you plan a water party at Wonderland park during the summer season. You also explain why this is a good choice, noting the hot weather and roller coasters, and you describe the help needed by asking Avtar for a list of attending friends. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed or repetitive, particularly the explanation of why the venue is good, where you mention the summer season twice without expanding much further. To reach a higher level, you could have elaborated more creatively on why a water park specifically suits your group or added more detailed plans about how your friend can assist you.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical structure appropriate for an informal request. You use a standard greeting and sign-off, and paragraphing is used reasonably well to separate the introduction, the event details, the reasons, and the request for help. Cohesion is present, but it sometimes feels a bit mechanical or repetitive, as seen with transitional phrases like 'Apart from it' and the repeated mentions of the 'summer season'. Referencing and linking sentences could flow more naturally to achieve a higher score. Strengthening the variety of cohesive devices without over-relying on basic connectors would improve the progression of ideas throughout the letter.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task and allows you to communicate your message clearly. You attempt some less common vocabulary, such as 'anniversary' and 'scheduled', but there are noticeable errors in word choice and phrasing, such as writing 'ten years college anniversary' instead of 'ten-year college anniversary' and using 'good enjoyment' rather than 'great fun' or 'enjoyable'. Spelling and word-choice errors are present, but they do not impede communication. To improve your lexical score, focus on using more precise collocations, natural-sounding expressions, and a wider variety of vocabulary related to organising social events.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, successfully using relative clauses and conditional structures. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as 'in summer season' missing the article 'the', and minor preposition issues, but these errors rarely impede communication and the majority of simple sentences are clear. To move up to the next band, you should aim for a higher proportion of error-free complex sentences and ensure better control over articles and prepositions within your grammatical patterns. More varied punctuation would also enhance the sophistication of your sentence structures.
